This week's top rap songs include Eminem's "Crack a Bottle" and Chamillionaire's "Creepin' (Solo)." See who else made the cut.
10. Chamillionaire - "Creepin' (Solo)"
Chamillionaire hooked up with The Game for a remix of his new single, "Creepin'" (Solo). It's slightly superior to the original version. Cham's third album, Venom, is tentatively scheduled for this summer.
9. 50 Cent - "I Get It In"
When I first heard "I Get It In" it sounded like 50 Cent was merely trying to reenact one of his older singles over a throwaway Dr. Dre beat. On on closer inspection, though, it's an infectious ditty that will surely incinerate dance halls all across America. Big headphones highly recommended.
8. Royce da 5'9" - "Shake This"
Royce da 5'9" took the web world by storm last week when he unleashed an incredibly creepy video for "Part of Me," the follow-up single to "Shake This." Nickle Nine's 4th solo album, Street Hop, arrives in April 2009.
7. Eminem - "Crack a Bottle" (Ft. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent)
Slim Shady recently shot a video for "Crack a Bottle" (screenshot), which can only mean one thing: The Relapse is not a myth.
6. Rhymefest - "Exodus 5:1"
Exodus 5:1 is a story about spiritual warfare, wherein Pharaoh resists the Word of God that Moses gave to him and went on to persecute the children of Israel. "Exodus 5:1" is a tale about being oppressed by the streets, systems, and society in general.
5. Cam'ron - "I Hate My Job"
Call it "recession rap" but this comeback anthem by Cam'ron is no joke. "Why am I workin' here? It ain't workin' here, it ain't worth it here/I'm never gone persevere," Cam raps on "I Hate My Job." The one time elusive MC rebounds with his 6th outing, Crime Pays, on May 5th.
4. Soulbrotha - "Life Is Crazy"
In tough economic times, motivational music is just what the doctor ordered. And Houston upstart Soulbrotha delivers just the right dose of therapeutic music on "Life Is Crazy."
3. Mos Def - "Quiet Dog"
Mos Def has been awful quiet lately. Let's hope that's not a sign that his new album, The Ecstatic, has been delayed yet again. "Quiet Dog" definitely left me ecstatic and eager for a new Mos album.
2. Raekwon (Feat. Ghostface Killah) - "Criminology 2"
Two of hip-hop's most dynamic duos Raekwon and Ghosftace reunite for a remake of their 1995 masterpiece. "Criminology II" is taken from Rae's upcoming Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. If this is any indication of what Cuban Linx II sounds like, we may be in for a thriller.
