Guide Review - Chamillionaire ft. Slick Rick - "Hip-Hop Police"
As he has made a name for himself both in the mainstream and on the mixtape circuit, he shows the true colors of the "chameleon" part of his name by camouflaging himself with 50 Cent's flow. Perhaps this is deliberate, since the major theme of this song is hip-hop's most vocal critics' inability to see rappers as individuals, but rather as a thugged-out, drug-dealing, stereotyped mass. The effort to approach socially conscious content is commendable as Cham describes hip-hop as a scapegoat for crime, but he failed to capitalize on what could have been a golden opportunity. The guest appearance by the legendary Slick Rick is seriously underutilized. On his too-short verse, Slick Rick does offer humor in the lyrics, "A big celebrity, a case we long for/you a pirate, why you got that eyepatch on for?"
