My calendar tells me we're five weeks away from Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city, so here's a preview to whet your appetite.

This is the most hype album release since i’ve been a fan of rap. No MC out there in the past 20 or so years takes writing as seriously as Kendrick does or put in the amount of quality work he does. The Recipe is a good song but there is no possible way that it will work well on this project. Its was more of a vehicle for Dr. Dre buzz than anything. Swimming pools is a sick song conceptually, but lyrically is a little lacking. Luckily its short so it should be a great addition. So the two confirmed tracks from the project are contrary to what we’d expect from a Kendrick album…I’m nervous.
Past 20 years or so? That is a very strong statement. Who would you say is better than Kendrick in that respect then, if anyone?

how long have you been a fan of rap cos this seems like a pretty wild statement to make. I can make good cases for a fairly large number of rappers that might well beg to differ
Yea, I’m going to second these dudes. I like Kendrick as much as the next guy, but to say that this is the most hyped album seems crazy. He’s good, but not like head and shoulders above every other rapper good…
@smike: I mean I respect your opinion here, though I disagree. I’m just curious who you would even rate higher than Kendrick then?
I didn’t say he was the best. I just said that he takes writing more seriously than anyone else. Thats not to say that I don’t regard him more highly than most rappers. The guy has classic verses on obscure features. Like my personal opinion of the best rappers includes: nas, common, eminem and andre3000 off the top of my head. So clearly i place a large premium on lyrical talent. Also, I haven’t been a fan of rap that long, i’d prolly say for about 5 years or so. I do however own around 71 albums from the 90s to present ranging from company flow to little brother to DMX so I wouldn’t discredit my ideas based on the length of time i’ve been listening. Finally, I said that it was the most hype to me. I dont know very many people that even know who lamar is so I clearly know that it doesn’t aproach the hype surrounding a project such as The College Dropout.
Well said.
Personally, I loved “The Recipe” and “Swimming Pools.” I think this album will showcase his versatility. I’m not by any means expecting a classic, but I am expecting a dope album. Lamar is one of the best out right now.

U’ve gotta be kidding me
