BET Apologizes for Lil Wayne and Drake Performance

Friday July 3, 2009
After days of non-stop backlash, BET has apologized for a performance by Lil Wayne, Drake and Young Money Records that involved underage girls during songs "Best I Ever Had" and "Every Girl" at the 2009 BET Awards.

During the Young Money set, a group of young girls, which included Lil Wayne's daughter and her friends, pranced around on stage. The problem is that Weezy's song "Every Girl" contains several explicit sexual references.

In a statement, BET expressed remorse over the performance. "BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET AWARDS 09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine). Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened."

Wayne's performance at an award show that was billed as a tribute to Michael Jackson seemed inappropriate. It's good to see BET stepping up and taking responsibility for that.

I am not sure why BET would want a song with those lyrics performed at all on the show.

Haha. Lots of Apologies this week.

This doesn’t NEARLY top the Game apologizing to 50 though…

When I saw the performance on last Sunday, I was shocked by the fact that they had young (teenage) girls on the stage during the performance of the song. Hence, the title of song (We Like Girls) with who they had on stage (young girls)….a hint of pedophilia…terrible!!!! Worst thing about that song, a lot of females or should I say young girls actually adore that song….I’ll even say that it’s probably the number song for teens on 106 and Park, despite the overtly sexual lyrics.

(It was definitely an ill-conceived idea. — Henry)

You are missing the point, miss Untochable.
Were you to review the comments the topic is not about Lil Wayne’s skills or talent. It is about using underage girls for a composition with explicit sexual lyrics. The implications of such a performance range from covert pedophilia fantasies to the idea of females of any age as merely sex objects.

I am a fan of lil Wayne but the performance on the BET awards was a very poor decision, 1st-it was not the proper venue at the time to do the sing. It was a tribute to MJ. You could barely enjoy the the show cause there were more censor bleeps than lyrics. But really broke my heart was that the babies were on stage. The song was too explicit for that. People were trying to hang MJ for dangling his child out of the window. Also there are way too many perverts out there. I just pray that he exercises better judgement next time. You ca see that he loves his child and the other little girls it just wasnt the right thig to do. Lil Wayne is an exceptional performer that could write a rap about a toilet paper roll and turn it platinum, I just dont want to see such a talented person black-balled.

i dont like lil wayne…and i dont know how you could like “toilet paper” rap…all of his songs are grabage…

now i dont like MJ either…but the performance did not really show that it was a tribute to MJ. I was just a song with RIP MJ in it…whats the point of that

‘miss untochable’ lil wayne sucks. He is not the best rapper alive because RAKIM is still alive. If you can be entertaned by lil wayne, then your entertaniment tast is wack. Please choose wisely listen to real rap:
Rakim
Krs-one
Royce de 5′9
Gang starr

I will stop with this:
