Eminem, Dre, and 50 Cent "Crack A Bottle" on the New Year

Tuesday January 6, 2009
They're back. Hip-hop's platinum-plated version of the 3 Musketeers -- Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent -- are up to their old mischievous tricks. Eminem’s return to the music world last year sparked a hailstorm of enthusiasm, as well as the inevitable music leaks. A newly leaked song titled "Crack A Bottle" finds Em reuniting with his mentor (Dre) and his protege (50 Cent) to remind us that they're ready to takeover the rap game in 2009. All three artists have new albums scheduled to drop this year. Unless Dre takes a break to sell headphones, '09 is gearing up to be the year of Aftermath. This feels really… tepid. I remember hearing the original leak, with Em doing all three verses, and I was skeptical. This is a marked improvement, but that hook is still obnoxious.

First off, I like the beat – it’s “gangsta”. I’d definitely bump it in my car at night – not so much during the day, though. Here’s my breakdown:

Em: His lyrics are strong, but his voice is too sing-songy. It’s almost sugary.

Dre: He’s saying absolutely nothing. Yeah, we get it, he has money. That’s not something that needs to be reiterated at this stage in the game. I’d like a little more depth from Dre. Something along the lines of early Dre ala The Chronic.

50: He’s doing the same thing that Dre is doing. Bragging about money and what his money can buy. 50’s lyrics are about as deep as a puddle; but as of late, we’ve all come to expect that, so it’s no surprise.

Overall I give it 3 bottles of Dom out of 5.

ugghhh WHAT THE F*** EM! man i was hoping he’d go back to pre- 8 mile eminem(he was good in the 8 mile album too, but after that…) but noooo he had to disappoint me once again.. i like the beat but this song sucks, the chorus would be tolerable if the verses were even close to good. eminem should just retire before embarrassing himself again and further ruining his legacy as an mc. i mean imagine he retired after he made lose yourself? would he not be considered in the top 5 or at LEAST top 10 of all time?

To shiban- He is generally considered in the top 10 of all time, but that stuff is all relative anyways. Besides dont judge the dude before you hear all of the new songs.

Dre is the best producer to ever grace rap music if not any genre. This just makes me want Detox even more. Rap music has went down hill big time over the past 3-4 years. Finally I am getting goosebumps again. Thank you Dr. Dre.

Em’s still got it that much is evident u just have to listen to “no apologies” to know that, but what is this sh*t “crack the bottle”? Em should stop releasing tracks with 50 he’s just a money maker that says the same crap over and over again. Let’s see more collabs like “renegade” and who wouldn’t love to see Em work with Nas that’s the sort of sh*t people would go out there way to buy! Em back to ur old skool, 50 fu*k off!
