Hip-Hop Artists React to Obama's Victory
It's no longer news that the hip-hop community (not you, Daddy Yankee) rallied behind Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, which culminated with a landslide victory on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Obama's supporters have been expressing their elation through various media outlets. Here's a round-up of reactions from around the hip-hop community.
Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson of The Roots
?uestlove was so overwhelmed with emotion that he broke down midway into his video response. "This is the first time I ever felt like the sky is the limit." [Prohiphop]Common
"My daughter now believes she can be the next president. Two years ago, she wanted to be a dancer. Now she says she can be the next president." [The Rap Up]Kanye West
Kanye responded with a simple yet powerful headline on his blog, "Hi mom, Obama won!" [Kanye's Blog]Russell Simmons
"While many older Americans, who marched and struggled so hard so Senator Obama could run for president of the United States, never dared to believe in his candidacy's real potential, young people, particularly the hip-hop community, had faith, and their imagination became our reality." What with the hate for Daddy Yankee standing up for what he believed in?!?!! Leave the man alone, he fought for what he believed in, so what if he believed in McCain ideal, so did about half the country. I voted for Obama to but I’m not hating on John McCain or his supporters, we need to come together as a country. Don’t be like Fat Joe’s dumb ass and hate on Daddy Yankee (Fat Joe jealous cause more folks in New York like Daddy Yankee). It didn’t matter who to vote for as long as you voted for who you believed in.
Julian you could not have said it better. I agree with you %100
