Common's Finding Forever Finds A Good Spot at No. 1
Just the other day, we were discussing the gift and curse of conscious rap, how socially aware MCs are typically less successful than their mainstream counterparts. Turns out Common was out to prove me wrong. His new album, Finding Forever, arrived at the top of Billboard's Albums chart, despite having only scanned 155,000 copies. Still, it's an impressive feat for a rapper with no single in the Top 10. What's even more fascinating is that it took Common 7 albums and 15 years to land his first No.1 album.
Will this news supply Kanye with the fuel he needs to zoom past 50 on 9/11?

i hope so. kanye raps circles around fifty these days, though early fifty would’ve killed kanye. get rich is a classic.
the album is hot….thats why its number.
Congratulations Common! You somehow made deep music AND reach number 1 on the Billboard charts.
Anyway, what’s your favorite track on the album? I just got it. My favorite is probably U, Black Maybe.
I’m jammin’ to Comm right now. I knew people were hungry for real hip-hop.
Re: Favorite cuts on the album…
It’s a tie between “U, Black Maybe” and “Start the Show.” Kanye ruined “Southside” and “The Game” has already worn out on me.
My favorite song is “The Game”.
kanye and common make a great combination..the last two albums prove this.
so happy to see good music reach no.1
and he really deserves dis…album is very good…no classic or anythig but still an achievment!!!
Gotta agree with Chosen. “The Game” is that joint. could do with more cuts like that. really soulful album from start to finish. The boy Ye done did it again! more grease to his elbow. 50? joker aint got that level of talent.
right now? i’m gigging off Talib’s “Hot Thing”. got me wide open.
Now some balance has returned to the game of hiphop. yay!!
