CD Review: Common's Finding Forever
Tuesday July 31, 2007
A couple years ago, Common went into the sound lab with Kanye West and re-emerged with a 12-song LP titled Be. Critics quickly dubbed it a classic. Consumers dashed to the stores and bought ten copies each. It appeared on hundreds of end-of-year lists. In retrospect, Be was truly a welcome departure from the influx of faux-thuggery, but it was grievously overrated.
Common is now back on the saddle with another 12-track album, Finding Forever, also helmed by Kanye. But how does it stack up against his previous albums? We have the final word on Finding Forever.

Good review, for what seems to be a great album. It’s on of the 7 i want coming out this year…or next.
Finding Forver, The N, Nacirema Dream, B.A.R.S., Seventh Seal, Ultimate Victory, Street Hop.
*one
This album is on point, I wish he made more songs for the album but still a great one. Better than Be.
Yo Nemesis, what about Wu?
Shannon: Nice review. I liked the iron fist/velvet glove metaphor.
I
Wu-Tang will probably be bought. I don’t know if it will come out this or next year. NY hip-hop is the best. Oh, does anyone know when AZ’s new album coming out?
Nemesis, don’t foget detox, although you might just have that on your list of a cd you want in the next 10 years.
Detox? Never heard of it.
haha nemesis i hope ur kidding about detox. as long as we’re making lists, here’s my anticipated albums:
papoose-the nacirema dream
kanye west-graduation
eminem-king mathers
dmx-the resurrection of hip hop
dr. dre-detox
and also the t.i. album that will probably drop late 2008 featuring heavy production from dj toomp
Oh, Detox is Dre’s new album. That’s why I never heard of it. I don’t pay attention to West Coast rap.
East>West
James, is that Eminem’s next official? Do you have a link or something? I believe you I just want to read about it lol. If he has that title though of the album he better bring it like he used to, which I have confidence he will.

that’s the cashis interview about eminem’s new album. and yea, with an album title like that, he better bring it. they say he’s bringing slimshady back, which should be cool.
Don’t forget about Saigon’s The Greatest Story Never Told, Raekwon’s Only Built For Cuban Linx 2, Lupe’s The Cool, and Little Brother’s Getback.
I don’t know, I’ve come across quite some negative reviews about this album and this is the only positive one.
James, thanks.
any1 like start the show???
its an amazing feeling listening to that track..!!
personally i got the album the morning it came out and i would so far rate it on the same level as “Be”.
but its not better than be…
I agree Cathal the album is not better than be, but its on the same level. And i like start the show. Mostly because he basically disses most of the rap industry. Southside has to be my favorite though
ur welcome luke
Forever Begins is beatiful song aswel…if any1 has msn or wants to e-mail me @ genius.gza@hotmail.com
i tink the most dissapointing thing about the album was so far to go..because i already heard it on dilla the shining lst summer and its not dills’s best either!!!
tanx Kevin..
Great review, you certainly have your finger on the pulse of what Common fans really want.Finding Forever is a must have. His development over the years is obvious, yet he still stays true to his concious roots. This is not for the immature………..This is real Hip Hop.
