Open Mic: Who's the Most Overrated Rapper of All Time?

Tuesday June 19, 2007

I can't decide between Biggie Smalls and Lil' Wayne. Sure, Biggie was undoubtedly one of the most compelling storytellers of his era, but he wasn't as versatile as some of his peers. Yet, I've heard hip-hop heads refer to Biggie as the "all-around greatest MC" of all time. Similarly, Wayne has proven himself as a sound lyricist with his last album, Tha Carter II, which many claim was inspired by the other Carter. Does that automatically make him the Jay-Z of the South? I don't think so.

But you don't have to agree with me. That's the beauty of hip-hop, isn't it? We've created a thread in the Rap Lounge for everyone to chime in on this issue. Come on in and tell us who you think is the most overrated rapper of all time.

(4) Ms. Lady says:

I realize we are talking about Biggie and Lil’ Wayne, but Kanye is really the most overrated ever.
Between Biggie and Lil’ Wayne, I would say Lil’Wayne.

(5) virus says:

p diddy..i still dont get how hes so rich. and eminem during his encore n reup album

June 19, 2007 at 1:59 pm
(6) Henry says:

Being talented doesn’t exclude a rapper from being overrated.

Agree with virus, Eminem is definitely one of the most over-hyped MCs ever.

June 19, 2007 at 3:53 pm
(7) Odog says:

Biggie? i dont think so..He isnt overrated.I live in Europe and few people know Biggie . Eminem and Kanye West are the most overrated rappers

June 19, 2007 at 5:34 pm
(8) otownsfinest says:

no way is weezy overated, have u guys listened to his recent mixtapes(drought 3, and carter 3 sessions) he tears those up, i think after carter 3 people r goin to realize he is the best rapper alive(not ever)

June 19, 2007 at 7:48 pm
(9) bsctack says:

why are people saying kanye is the most overated??? hes underated…. but the most overated rapper of all time is definetly wayne

June 19, 2007 at 9:27 pm
(10) 6th Sense says:

I don’t think Eminem is as overrated as you are making him out to be Henry because he’s one of the most versatile MCs in the past two decades. He can spit torturous lyrics to comedic lyrics. He touches topics such as love, sex, violence, patriotic, personal, diss, introspective (once in a while), immature, intellectual and even homophobic and what not. I doubt you could name many rappers that are as versatile. His flow is very unique too. I agree he’s a bit overrated due to many of the white fans listen mostly to Eminem only.

June 19, 2007 at 9:39 pm
(11) BK says:

Weezy is the most overated rapper of all time! He isnt as good as Lupe Fiasco, Papoose or Anyone from the Wu thats still alive. What makes people think hes messing with Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, Krs1 and Chuck D? I am so tired of lil wayne, its like comparing Kobe (weezy) to MJ (nas, jigga, rakim, krs1, chuck d) and thats being generous.

June 19, 2007 at 9:51 pm
(12) Luke says:

Henry, so what do you think about Wayne exactly?

and BK…Kobe’s amazing, not as much as MJ but still lol. Plus hes A LOT closer to MJ than Wayne is to any of the ones you mentioned. (Sorry, Kobe fan lol)

June 19, 2007 at 9:54 pm
(13) BK says:

Luke, I know Kobe is way closer to MJ then Wayne then any of those rappers thats why I said that is being generous, make that very generous.

June 19, 2007 at 9:59 pm
(14) JP says:

Lil Wayne is definitely the most Overrated. Whatchu guys talking about Kanye West like that for? The guys got mad skills. Leave him alone.

June 19, 2007 at 10:04 pm
(15) Luke says:

ooo ok thanks BK, sorry i read it the other way around in my head lol.

June 20, 2007 at 8:43 am
(16) Kevin says:

I dont think eminem is the most overated. His cds from Slim Shady Lp to The Eminem Show have been great. Encore sucked we all know that lol. But his lyrics on Slim Shady LP is why people think he is one of the best rappers around. The most overated would have to be lil wayne, even though drought 3 and tha carter 3 sessions and the rest of his mixtapes have been crazy, he still doent deserve the “best rapper alive” hype

June 20, 2007 at 8:48 am
(17) Kevin says:

Also the other most overated would definetly be 50 cent.

June 20, 2007 at 9:52 am
(18) Mac T says:

Lil wayne doesn’t even deserve to be talked about, hes brutal, hearing him live is like being tortured.
The most overrated rapper has to be Jay Z, no doubt, this guy plaster the walls of everything and i can’t think of one good song that wasn’t geared towards 12 year old white kids in order to make money.

June 20, 2007 at 10:41 am
(19) Will says:

Biggie is more overrated, however, i hate it when Weezy says he’s the best rapper alive, when there are so many legends that could easily beat him.

June 20, 2007 at 11:51 am
(20) Ivan says:

Weezy probably.

But on a further note, I’d say that 2pac is overrated for all the wrong reasons but at the same time, underrated for his conscious works.

June 20, 2007 at 12:09 pm
(21) brian says:

Eminem is one of the greatest Mc’s ever………he imortalizes what hip-hop really is…….i agree with kevin in the FACT that 50 cent is def the most overated rapper in the game right now…..and i think yall are a lil hard on lil wayne i mean his freestyles are top of the line but i think his albums could use some work.

June 20, 2007 at 3:12 pm
(22) ReppinUK says:

Jay-Z = most overrated rapper of all time. I really don’t get what all the fuss is about. NaS, PAc, Rakim & Biggie run rings around the guy. Plus hey didn’t/haven’t sell/sold out like him. If people rate Jay-Z as the best ever then hip hop really is dead.

June 20, 2007 at 4:22 pm
(23) ctdirt says:

man lil wayne is overrated plus his head is shaped funny he just puts out so much you cant tell if you looked up wack ass lines from rappers lil wayne wopuld appear in 50% of them

June 20, 2007 at 6:07 pm
(24) smurfyMD says:

Ok…ok…ok..I see some of ya’ll on this blog have an idea what being an MC is and the rest of you started listening to hip-hop in 1999…Lol…an MC is measured by 4 things…wordplay, depth, delivery and charisma…so for the arguement on whose the most overated ever, I would have 2 say its Pac…bcuz he only had charisma…to my family reppinUK..Lol…Jay-Z is the GOAT…and fam, I’m not even the biggest Hova fan, this dude did choke on Kingdom Come, but man are u serious…wordplay “D’evils”…depth “Song Cry”…delivery “Hola Hovito”…charisma —> his whole career…Nas had no charisma, KRS1 had no depth, Rakim had no charisma, Lil wayne has no IDENTITY…Lmao…peace

June 20, 2007 at 6:50 pm
(25) Jean says:

Are u kidding me?…Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers out right now, so is Jay-Z

June 20, 2007 at 6:50 pm
(26) Odog says:

Pac had no delivery??no depth?lool…Nas had no charisma?? Charisma isnt say Im The Best of all time..!! Jay is good but he isnt the GOAT

June 20, 2007 at 6:54 pm
(27) kf says:

dfa

June 20, 2007 at 7:33 pm
(28) ReppinUK says:

SmurfyMD, since when did you ever make up the criteria??? Well, if we’re gonna go by you’re criteria I admit Pac is beaten by Jigga on wordplay and delivery (kinda anyway, I’ve not heard another MC who actually sounds like they really mean what they are saying like Pac did) but Pac absolutely kills Hov on charisma and depth. Apart from ‘Song Cry’ I’m struggling to think of other songs with real depth to them (and I have been listening to hip hop longer than since ‘99). With Pac I could list 20 meaningful, deep songs. Thats why he’s the GOAT. No arguments. He’s not the best rapper ever but as a whole package Pac was special. The game wasn’t ready for him. As for Rakim, Biggie and NaS they all beat Jay-Z hands down. Rakim & Biggie on worldplay and delivery (and charisma for Biggie) and NaS on both and depth of his lyrics. It’s people like you that have sold out like Hova and are happy to listen to his commercial trash. Real hip hop is dying fast. And people like you are helping in its downfall.

June 20, 2007 at 7:46 pm
(29) Sean Rotolo says:

honestly, i might get hated on for this one, but Jay-Z, who is a close second to the number one piece of trash 50 cent

June 20, 2007 at 8:52 pm
(30) billy says:

ll cool j there i said it………the most underated is az for sure though

June 20, 2007 at 9:49 pm
(31) Bennie says:

Lil Wayne is garbage

June 20, 2007 at 9:52 pm
(32) Henry says:

^How is LL overrated?

The problem with Jay-Z is that people expect too much from him, like he’s not human at all. We’re quick to cut others some slack, but not Jay-Z. We always expect magic from him, and that’s a tough shoe for any human to fill.

June 20, 2007 at 11:17 pm
(33) Duhh says:

I can’t believe I scrolled through this entire blog and didn’t even see a mention of Jeezy (maybe I overlooked it). Jeezy is nothing but hooks and repitive lyrics (albeit entertaining – it is NOT representative of talent), and people constantly cite him as their favorite. Catchy does not equal good.

June 21, 2007 at 3:23 am
(34) BK says:

Duhh,
I feel you about jeezy but wayne is called the best rapper alive not even the biggest fool will say something like that about jeezy. What I really hate about wayne is that he got rich at 17 rapping about how he has all this money and then when hes in his 20s he decides to be a gangster. NaS and Jay-Z started off rapping about the hood and when they grew up they rapped about grown people stuff. Wayne so cocky too and he hasnt dropped a single album that can be called classic, that guy gets on my nerves

June 21, 2007 at 4:24 am
(35) BK says:

I feel you on jeezy but wayne fans actually call him the best rapper alive, not even the biggest jeezy fan is that stupid. What I really hate abot wayne is that at 17 he raps about how he gets money but when hes in his 20s he decides to be a gangster. NaS and Jigga started off rapping about the hood and then moved on to their grown people problems. Wayne lying isnt what bothers me but its him thinking he is a blood is what bothers me. Ya I was born in Brooklyn and live in STL city but I never actually walk around thinking Im a thug.

June 21, 2007 at 11:23 am
(36) Patrick says:

Lil Wayne….hands down, he already came out with 3mix tapes within the last 3months, and his album hasnt even dropped.and dont forget all those remixes-

June 21, 2007 at 1:09 pm
(37) Seth says:

lil wayne is my favorite rapper, hands down but i do have some gripes with him.
a) i think he’s an idiot but that’s ok since i don’t plan on going to him for advice ever.
b) he does say “like” too much BUT his similies are the best in the game right now. i just think he has so many that he has no where else to put them so he just says them consecutively like in his “throw some d’s” remix which is meh IMO.
c) he doesn’t do enough real songs. i wanna hear more like georgia bush, receipt, shooter, something you forgot, etc. his mixtape stuff is getting monotonous but he’s still really funny and it keeps me entertained.

June 21, 2007 at 6:33 pm
(38) Matt says:

Bottom line: Wayne is very slick with his word-play but his word-play is about the same crap over and over again. I seriously don’t care how much money you have or what kind of car you drive. Give me some lyrical depth. The best rappers that have ever stepped to the mic have timeless rhymes.

Wayne is very overrated, but the biggest of all time? Possibly but I give my vote to Kanye, stick to beats.

June 21, 2007 at 11:52 pm
(39) problem kid says:

lil wayne is tha best rapper alive…lil wayne is tha best rapper of all time..yea he better than 2pac and biggie

June 22, 2007 at 9:10 am
(40) Odog says:

Lol

June 25, 2007 at 2:32 am
(41) nomar says:

kanye west followed by lil wayne as a close second and then the likes of jeezy and 50 cent

Jay-Z is one of the top mc’s but is quite overrated, as some people call him the GOAT, and that is nowhere near true.
Off the top of my head I think Nas, Redman, GZA, Rakim, and KRS-One are the top 5 of all time, and then 2Pac, Biggie, Chuck D, Ghostface, and Jigga… wat the hell is henry talking about?

GZA the Genius is the most underrated

June 25, 2007 at 2:37 am
(42) nomar says:

i mean when he says that we don’t think JayZ is human and stuff. i usually agree with what he writes, but i just don’t think Jay-Z is as good as some other elite rappers.

June 25, 2007 at 3:38 pm
(43) g freshh says:

lmaoo.. foreall i styll dont understand this hype over lil wayne, i hear his name erywhere.. right now the most overrated is weezy and prolly young jeezy, and 50 cent, i like eminem.. buh i think his talent is fading away

June 26, 2007 at 4:39 am
(44) Gmak says:

Young Jeezy for sure is overrated. I agree Weez is good, but overrated. the same can be said about Jay,50.

I dont think Kanye is overrated, anyone who has listend to late registration and colledge dropout will know he is an amazing rapper.

I agree AZ is underrated. even Common.

June 26, 2007 at 9:33 am
(45) Duttz says:

Lil Wayne is Certainly The Most overrated without a doubt. I liked Tha Carter II, i might even go as far as saying its a classic. But come on…..The Best Rapper alive? Hes a long way from it – I Wouldn’t even put him in my top 20.

As for Jay-Z and Biggie, How can anyone say that they are more overrated than Lil Wayne?, They are 2 of the greatest ever (IMO Both Top 5 – Reasonable Doubt/Ready To Die are 2nd and 3rd Best Albums after Illmatic), Jay-Z has 2/3 Classics, hes very consistent and influencial as well. I think Biggie could have gone on to become the GOAT, if he had done more than 2 albums.

Kanye West is not exactly the greatest lyricist but i think hes a capable MC, IMO he has good word play and delivery. Kanye is one of the best out at the moment because he makes great music, College Dropout and Late Registration are better than anything Weezy has done and Kanye Doesnt claim to be the best alive.

(AZ is the most underrated, GZA is better than him but he gets a lot more recognition, Wu-Tang are much more popular and most Wu fans would rate GZA as the Clans best Lyricist)

June 27, 2007 at 4:48 am
(46) Tom Head says:

Definitely Mystikal for me. I get headaches, I get Excedrin headaches, and then I get Mystikal headaches.

June 27, 2007 at 5:07 am
(47) colm says:

Fistly ODOG im from euope too and EVERY1 knows Biggie!!!
Dipset and lil wayne are most overrated

June 28, 2007 at 4:26 am
(48) empee says:

The creator of songs like Party and Bulls and Juicy can never be overrated! In my opinion Tupac is the most overrated rapper of all time. Everyone knows who he is and “likes” his music, pretty much overrated.

June 29, 2007 at 4:10 am
(49) Yahshar says:

I think all MCs are overrated. That’s the point of marketing. Hype them up so people will buy their cds. For every Lil Wayne or Biggie who’s in the spotlight there are a few dozen out there who are just as talented or even better. They just haven’t been discovered. Those who are found get hyped up and overrated to make money. There are some whos skills are next level but someone better always comes along.
So I answer the question with a question…who’s the least?

June 29, 2007 at 4:14 am
(50) Jeff says:

50 Cent hands down!

June 29, 2007 at 8:33 am
(51) k says:

kanye eminem overrated my ass. kanye’s keepin the game alive and look at eminem’s first 3 albums, they were crazy.
jay-z’s the overrated one i reckon. Didn’t think his flow’s THAT good.

July 1, 2007 at 6:12 pm
(52) PerfectlyDeep says:

joining this thread a little late, but damn some of you got the game twisted. Weezy is definitely overrrated but thats be cause he shows flashes in some of his songs. Not enough to be considered great, he shows enough to stay relevant today just like the super overrated CURTIS!!!!!!!!!!

How bout you give some respect to the most underrateds like Black Thought, Talib, Comm, Mos, cats in the game who have the total package and get mainstream appeal because of our bubble gum pop culture.

Hip Hop isn’t dead, it’s like a secret society, always around and keeping its eye on thee, steady making noise but does so quietly,

July 9, 2007 at 1:39 pm
(53) stephon says:

lil wyane is so overrated because everybody thinks he has been hot since he was little. HELL NO!!! he sucked when he was lil and now he says a couple tight things and he is no.1. if you think about it the best rapper alive is tupac because he is so real with the lyrics and he makes sense with his melody.lil wayne all you hear is hustlin and grindin, don’t get me wrong I hustle my ass off to, but he repeats himself too much. If he had a mentality of tupac no doubt he would the best rapper alive.and then you got cassidy, frayser boy, papoose, yo gotti, and then you can’t forget WEBBIE!!!!!!!!so once again lil waynemis the most overrated rapper alive.

(64) John says:

I agree with both, biggie and lil wayne. biggie was good, but not nearly as good enough to be considered for greatest rapper all time. same with lil wayne, he is good, though i personally dont like him at all, since there are enough people who do ill admit he must be good, but cant touch the level of rappers like 2pac, eminem, jay-z, etc. and 50 cent is not overrated at all, hes not highly rated in the first place.

October 3, 2007 at 1:45 pm

p.diddy and 50 cent are way too overrated!!!!!!!

(67) thirty plus dude says:

I’ve never learned anything from listening to a Weezy song. He hasn’t said anything new that another rapper hasn’t said. Yea, I bop my head when I listen to his music, but this has nothing to do with meaningful talent that comes from the heart and tries to educate the youth.

Nas could teach him a lil something with regard to music. Nas will tell you where we all came from (history). Weezy can only tell us how a fraction of the population are living; hot cars, big houses and boning honeys etc. What does any of that have to do with any of us regular people?

November 29, 2007 at 9:56 pm
(68) OriginalHead says:

Having been a hip-hop fan for the last 20 years (honestly, there were years that my headphones didn’t leave my ears for more than 5 minutes at a time), I have to assume that anyone who can honestly say that Lil’ Wayne is the best…well…anything-to-do-with-hip-hop either has low standards in the music that they expose themselves to, or simply doesn’t know what a good MC sounds like. I’ve seriously tried to give this guy a chance, and after listening to what are claimed to be his best tracks, he doesn’t even crack my top one-hundred. As far as most overrated, I’ve got to give it to Lil’ Wayne. In all honesty, though, I question most of the so-called BEST MC’s. Jay-Z, Biggie, and 2Pac have all produced some good music, but the greater portion of it is filler, just like most other artists. Nas was on my top for awhile, mainly based on the fact that Illmatic is as close to a blueprint for what a good hip-hop album should sound like as any that has been produced (IMHO), but he really doesn’t seem to have matured at all over the years. Right now, I think Jojo Pellegrino, Sean Price, Joell Ortiz, Mr. J Medeiros, and a lot of other cats are putting out music that doesn’t get a lot of airplay, but puts the mainstream commercial stuff to shame. BTW… any of you heads who get into holy hip-hop… shai linne and the cat five-two are ridiculous on the mic. My two cents…One!

(69) Aimee says:

I like Lil Wayne but I tink he should write more meaningful songs lil something you forgot, trouble, don’t wanna see me cry, and Pray to the lord. These r songs that ppl can relate to instead of always talkin about money and cars and hoes.

January 2, 2008 at 4:53 pm
(70) D says:

Hmmm how about one of them cats from DIP SET hahaha.. Nobody really listened to Wayne till 500 Degreez maybe even the Carter 1, but for those that said PAC and BIG were overrated are idiots, but it could depend on mainstream vs underground. I personally don’t care who’s the most overrated, but that cat 50 is garbage although everybody that said it bought at least one of his albums. Now who’s the hottest LYRICST of all time, not who sold the most or was the most popular?

January 9, 2008 at 12:09 am
(71) jon says:

it said overrated, not over hyped. and rapper not just lyricist. that means his words and his image, i gotta go with biggie. he was damn good, but longevity has to count for something. i know he died, but whose to say his next album would have been garbage, like an eminem scenario. and to you wayne haters out there, he has been hot since he was young. better at 17 than bow wow. he was over shadowed by the talent when cash money was on top, now he is cash money.

January 22, 2008 at 10:17 pm
(72) the guy behind you says:

lil wayne 4 sure. he thinks he’s so good, but of couse he’s only average.

March 2, 2008 at 6:25 am
(73) jordan says:

there is a difference between overrated and overhyped. 50 cent is overhyped, not overrated. no one rates him good in the first place. as for most overrated, it has to be lil wayne because he claims to be the best rapper alive and so do many other people who have never listened to real hip hop.

May 8, 2008 at 8:08 pm
(74) mj says:

okay my most overrated rapper right now is lil wayne. I just think people look at his lyrics and they say, wow(im not one of them) but when u actually hear him, its like…huh? His delivery is horrid. I dont wanna hear people talk about how yes lil wayne is the best becuase he be comin out with mixtapes and cd’s all the time. Well quantity doesnt equal quality, and lil wayne does not bring quality. How can this man be the best in the game when he continues to be out matched in remixes such as im so hood and shawty lo. i also think 2pac and biggie are overrrated too. not becuase i dont think they are good , but becuase people claim they are the best. People need to stop acting like they dont appreciate a rapper today becuase he is aint talkin towards the kids or makin a point in his song. Didnt 2 pac and biggie rap about the same stuf, girls money, and drugs. Stop acting like these two rappers where making a point and talking about serious issues becuase they were not. I also think Ludacris is one of the most underrated rappers in history. I dont feel people take him seriously just becuase he is a comedic rapper(well he is getting more serious) Luda show the versatility that wayne as not proven to us yet. Luda comes with the punch lines and the metaphors. Y do u think its a coincidence that he always out shines other rappers in collaborations. thats all i gotta say.

Mj, u think 2 pac and big only rapped about money and drugs? Have you ever even heard any songs by 2 pac? Music is a form of art, and because rap is art 2 pac was definitely the best rapper ever. He expressed himself on every song. Big was the same as pac, just not that good. Lil Wayne is definitely the most overrated. He is not even top twenty rappers today. Kanye, talib, and common are underrated

being that the subject of this blog is the most overrated emcee of all time, i cant believe 50CENT wasnt the first name that popped up. i mean no disrepect, his mixtapes were good and his first album was a classic and all dont get me wrong, but i do think he is way overhyped and doesnt the title or best rapper ever like alot people try and make him out to be.

Jay-Z is far too over-hyped but I think that the American music scene is like that in general. It has all the gloss and shine but its empty inside.

It all seems to be about talking about how much more money, cars or how big the house they have than the common person. I dont know how people can relate to that other than if you are from a wealthy. When I hear music from America all I hear is greed.

Past stuff from rappers like NWA, Ice-T, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, 2-Pac, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy and some other acts that I cant think of at the moment talked about stuff that was more important than how many bentleys they have.

Lil Wayne is the most ovverrated rapper of all time i think, most people like him because all of there friends like him and if you honestly think hes the best alive you clearly dont know hip-hop. ya he has some talent but doesnt deserve half the credit he gets

Lil Wayne is hugely overrated. This little clown-like bisexual coke head thinks he’s the bearer of the hip hop crown. He doesn’t have the talent, character, or the depth. Papoose is the future of the genre and he’s coming for this clown. Watch and see. PAPOOSE. If you don’t know the name do your research.

most overrated by his fans: Lil Wayne. For some reason, all his hardcore fans think he’s the best rapper ever. And the rest of us think he’s trash. How can you be the greatest rapper alive when your biggest song is a song like lollipop with no substance or wordplay at all? I did a poll on another website asking who thought lil wayne was the greatest rapper alive and what their ages were and how long they had been listening to hip hop. None of them were over 18 or had been listening to hip hop for more than 5 years. I think that says something.

Just to be fair, he’s probably also underrated by people like me who get tired of listening to the weezy stans saying how great he is and don’t give him a real chance. But he definitely wouldn’t make it in the top 10.

Kanye West is a little overrated. He’s more of a producer than a rapper. But there aren’t nearly as many fanboys running around saying how great he is.

Jay-Z is definitely overrated. But I can’t call him the most overrated because I would at least put him on the top 20 list if not the top 10.

Most overrated of all time: Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne and 50 Cent.

Hate me all you want, but none of them have any feelings and wordplay in their songs. Just like someone mentioned, how can you consider Lil Wayne a top rapper, when his #1 hit is a song like “Lollipop”?

In my definition, hip-hop is real when it involved emotion and meaning. Take a look at Jedi Mind Tricks, Tech N9ne, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Lupe Fiasco (just to name a few).

After the garbage being played on the radio these days, hip-hop needs to be resurrected.

Lol yeah right.I’ll give you Ice Cube,2pac-overrated as hell and he wasn’t half as “deep” as people make him out to be.But still had some substance, public enemy and to a lesser extent Ice-T.But,Snoop Dogg and Cypress Hill had exactly 0 substance.Especially snoop.Talking about smoking blunts, drinking cult 45s,sleeeping with various women, and doing drive bys arent important things.

they are all overrated because they are all mainstream. which for those of you who dont know what that is means they are top 40, sellouts, on mtv. they are in it for fame, not for the love of music. name one good rap label in the last 10 years, only one, psychopathic records, and no not the insane clown posse im talking about all the other groups on their label. anything on radio or mtv has no talent. a tru rapper will not sell out to a pepsi commercial etc… most good mc’s were back in 80’s that had real flow and decent beat (not same loop over and over like now, and what ever happened to dj’s. no newer sellouts have that, which made it exciting by scratching and mixing. all new mainstream rap like ememin, 2pac, biggy, lil wayne, tpain, ludacris etc, have no inspiration in their music. its all money hoes cars clothes gold. who cares. once they sell one album succsessfully. they rush to get all the other ones out in a hurry because they know the ignorant people will buy it even if its 55 minutes of a toilet flushing. hell p diddys first album didnt have even 1 song that wasnt copied of someone else. he copied off led zeppelin, the police. tru rap hard hard hitting quad, hi hats, a beat that changes at least 4 times a song, and 4 or 5 guys taking turns ganging up on the mike, with a funky fresh dj rippin it up 3 or 4 times during that song. not a bunch of lame whining over and over like lil wayne cop car song we o we o we we o we o we. is that talent i rest my case
