Jay-Z's Mom Honored by New York City Council

Wednesday May 9, 2007

One rapper who will be very proud of his mom this Mother's Day is Sean "Jay-Z" Carter. Jay-Z's mother, Gloria Carter, was recently honored with a proclamation from the New York City Council for her "outstanding contributions to the community."

Carter heads the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization which offers outstanding students a chance to pursue higher educations. Established in 2002, the charity also offers mentoring programs and other services.

The recognition was given to Carter at the start of Wednesday's meeting in the Council Chambers at City Hall, according to MSNBC.com. Jay-Z, who crashed the show to watch his mom received the framed proclamation, said he was "very proud of her."

Who wouldn't be?

This is great, I would be proud of my mom. Jay-z was raised in a good home, and I’m happy that his mom is helping kids become more educated.
