J Dilla: One Year Later
Saturday February 10, 2007
I can't think of any fancy hyperboles that haven't already been used to applaud J Dilla's legacy.
"If you can look at the glass and say it's half empty or half-full, he sees a third way to look at it. If there's one thing that every producer can agree on, from Madlib to Just Blaze, it's that he's the messiah of beat-making."
That's how Dilla's close friend, Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson, once described the late MC/producer in an interview. As today marks the one year anniversary of his death, let's have a moment of silence for one of the best producers on the mic, J Dilla.More on J Dilla:

j dilla changed my life
Yo Jay kept me interested in HIP HOP PERIOD. I watch the VH1 Awards and ATCQ recieved their well deserved Honor. But no mention of Dilla AT ALL. This is the very problem I have with all the people who benefited from his work, only liner notes. Once I heard Dilla, it was instant Love. As I watched the remainder of ATCQ release material none matched the soulfulness of the The Fifth Element of Ummah J Dilla. Common Latest work only features 1 or two tracks?? Electric Circus was Phat, What happened kanye? Gifted as He is, nothing he has produced for Common matches, “Nag Champa…” This isn’t a complaint, just stating how disappointing it is to continue to see this Brother get left in obscurity while these bloodsuckers use his formula, GIVE HIM HIS PROPS!!! DILLA DEFINITLY CHANGED MY LIFE!!!
