Jay-Z Is Back, But Who Cares?

Friday November 24, 2006
A friend called me from Best Buy, where he had gone fishing for half-off prized items early this morning. He was also there to grab a copy of Jay-Z's Kingdom Come. Unfortunately for him, there was nary one copy of Kingdom Come left on the shelf. In fact, hitsdailydouble.com says that Hov's comeback CD has been selling so much that it's expected to crack north of 850,000 units in its first week on off the shelf. That means it will be certified platinum in just two weeks, making it the year's biggest opener. Ladies and Gentlemen, hip-hop as we know it is back on top. Here's the bitter pill: Kingdom Come is Jay-Z's worst effort since The Blueprint 2: The Gift and The Curse. So, don't call it a comeback?

See what other rap fans are saying about Hov's return in the rap forum.

Have you even listened to the album? I havent heard it enuf to say its not, but I like it. I think it’s the hottest album since the Black Album. Listen to the Lyrics man.

Yup, I’ve listened to it over and over and over and over again, mainly because I’m a Jay-Z fan. As a fan, I’ll be honest in saying that his new CD is mediocre. With the exception of 2 or 3 songs, it’s all about: I’m Hov, I’m back, I had dinner with Paris Hilton, I’m CEO, you’re not, etc.

I like the album alot……… But I agree with Henry, Jay does’nt really have anything to prove. Like at the BET Hip Hop Awards to quote Jay “Women Lie Men Lie numbers don’t” and wether who liked or not he’s still on top. And if not he sure got my money cause I bought a couple of copies.

hey man, now i respect opinon and everything, but i read alot of your articles and i must say i dont thinky uo know “hip-hop” enough to sit here and write about it. nothing personal, but i have read more accurate stuff on myspace. i think you should do a little more research before you write from now on.

Just a few comments…His album overall is pretty weak, like others have said -there are few good tracks with some solid collaborations…but it was disappointing to hear some of the lyrics in the songs that were just meaningless…i guess being insanely rich doesnt help with inspiration…
