From the article: What's the Real Cost of that Major Deal?
If you had to choose between a major and an independent label, what would you pick? Pick your poison
Major or Indie
- Well I'd have to choose Major because of FAME? I don't really know right now but I'm a rap/hip-hop writer in progress but yeah I'd sink into debt to get FAME anytime.

Rhymesayers (Warner) Stones Throw (EMI)
- Could the long-term success of indie labels like Stones and Rhymesayers possibly have anything to do with the fact that they're distributed by majors, and can often use promotional, marketing, and synch services that those majors operate on a scale larger than any indie could ever afford?

INDIE
- Indie. Labels like QN4, Stone's Throw, Rawkus (before) and Rhymesayers etc ARE hip hop

Major or Indie
- I would actually pick neither, because if the music is good, it doesn't matter where it came from. It can come from someone's basement for all the I care. The quality of the music is all that matters, not the label that it came from.

Depends
- I prefer personally indie, as the artist has more freedom and can make the music they want. However, as an artist looking to make money, it is more likely to come with a major label push. To me though, I am more likely to purchase an indie album, as hip hop is still alive in the indie community

Reno Smiff...INDIEISM (The NEW religion)
- SUPERB piece, Mr. Adaso! Check ur email. My response was WAY too lengthy! LOL!

Mr. Adaso is seriously on-point!
- Mr. Adaso, you are the man. I would have to say, go Indie. Retain the rights to your work. Take care of yourself. The desire for fame is making us all crazy. Stay true to your craft. Like my man, Q-Tip, said, "record companies are shady..so kids watch your back, `cause I think they smoke crack, I don't doubt it look at how they act." Need further proof: Listen to EMPD's classic track, "Crossover" or even BDP's "Outta Here". This is real education about the industry. Props to KRS-One for telling us the truth all these years.
