Top 10 rap/hip-hop albums for the week ending August 19th, 2006.
1. DMX - Year of the Dog...Again
Fueled in part by his hit single, "Lord Give Me a sign" and his BET celeb-reality show, "Soul of a Man," DMX sails to NO. 2 with 125,739 scans--his lowest opening week sales ever. It's also the first time the NY rapper has ever debuted in the runner-up spot. X's first five releases all entered Billboard at No.1.
2. Pharrell - In My Mind
Skateboard P slides down six spots to No. 9 this week. In My Mind still moved a solid 51,460 scans this week.
3. Yung Joc - New Joc City
Joc's Block/Bad Boy debut, New Joc City, toppled 11 - 15 with 40,028 discs sold. Yung Joc now proudly rocks a gold plaque with 532,845 after nine weeks on the chart.
4. Busta Rhymes - The Big Bang
Another rapper that appears to be headed for gold status is Aftermath's Busta Rhymes with 469,127 units for The Big Bang. Thanks to his brand new video for "In the Ghetto" and the extra 19,354 discs sold this week. Busta trades spot with Pimp C to occupy the No. 37 position.
5. Pimp C - Pimpalation
Speaking of Pimp C, his Rap-A-Lot set, Pimpalation, came in at No. 50 with 15,299 this week. Pimpalation has now moved 155,906 units in four weeks.
6. Ice Cube - Laugh Now, Cry Later
Ice Cube holds steady on No. 49 with 15,349 units. Laugh Now, Cry Later has sold 384,803 copies to date.
7. T.I. - King
King--which has now spent nineteen weeks on Billboard--bows at No. 51 with 15,248 scans and a total of 1,416,255 to date.
8. E-40 - My Ghetto Report Card
E-40 checks in at No. 74 with My Ghetto Report Card. The Bay Area vet sold 12,061, bumping his sales-to-date figures to 373,880.
10. JR Writer - History in the Making
Also hovering outside the top 100 this week is Dipset affiliate, JR Writer. Writer's debut, History in the Making, moved 5,142 units to take the No. 106 position.
