Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop Songs for April 29, 2006

By , About.com Guide

With so many rap tunes raining down on us like confetti, it's often challenging to wrap our hands around the hottest songs out there. Not to worry, I've compiled a list of the ten songs that are incinerating charts and ears everywhere. The weekly Top 10 is based mainly on aesthetic value, relevance, and performance on various charts.

1. Rhymefest - Dynomite (Going Postal)

Listen(wma)

As the hip-hop world anxiously waits for Rhymefest to pop his Blue Collar sometime in May, the Chicago go-getter who claims to have worked more than 30 jobs, hangs on to the #1 spot for the third week in a row.

2. Gnarles Barkley - Crazy

Listen(wma)

With song titles like "Feng Shui," "Necromancing," and "Go-Go Gadget Gospel", this alt. rap/pop duo will definitely be in a class of their own when St. Elsewhere drops on May 9th. "Crazy" is the standout single that's got everyone going...(yeah you guessed it).

3. T.I. - What You Know

T.I. and Toomp descend to #3 this week, but Tip is still smiling to the bank based on the double-edged success of his album, King, and movie, "ATL" simultaneously.

4. Obie Trice featuring Akon - Snitch

Detroit music has had it rough this year. With the loss of two of the D's pioneering hip-hop heads, Proof and J Dilla, the likes of Obie Trice and Slum Village are left with the hefty burden of restoring the Brick City to a comfortable place on the hip-hop map.

5. Kanye West featuring Twista & Keyshia Cole - Impossible

Kanye and his entourage return to the charts this week with the amazing theme song to "Mission Impossible III." The Kon Man experiments with his flow a bit, making it somewhat flavorful.

6. DJ Khaled featuring Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel - Problem

Don't rub your eyes, you read that right. Former nemeses, Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel, teamed up for one of the best collaborations of the year so far, with DJ Khaled on the boards. The terror squad DJ/producer, who also goes by Beat Novocaine, is set to drop his first album, Listen, later this summer.

7. M-1 ft. K'Naan and Stori James - 'Til We Get There

With the help of new artists, K'Naan and Stori James, M-1 of dead prez channels an outpour of uplifting words with restrained emotion. His solo album, Confidential, is consistent with the insightful dpz mantra.

8. Bubba Sparxxx ft. Petey Pablo and Sleepy Brown - The OtherSide

Bubba's latest album, The Charm, has performed relatively well on the charts, thanks to his controversial first single, "Ms. New Booty". Many of us would still rather listen to this poignant cut.

9. Mobb Deep - Put 'Em In Their Place

Hollywood Hav and Las Vegas P re-visit their Infamous recipe on the upcoming Blood Money, this time with updated production courtesy of Alchemist, Profile, Sha Money XL, K-Lassik, and (of course) Havoc. Mobb's G-Unit debut will certainly impress their core fans.

10. Yung Joc - It's Goin' Down

Yung Joc claims he once "chopped it up" with Diddy from 8pm to 8am, in a recent interview. The young newcomer could definitely use all the wisdom he can garner from the hip-hop mogul. Joc's debut is set to drop on Bad Boy Records next month.
