2007 was rife with plenty of outrageous moments. Some brought us laughter, others brought rage. Here are 10 of the most outrageous hop-hop moments of 2007.
10. This Is Why I'm Hot
MIMS records an annoying song about saying nothing and making it to the top, and actually makes it to the top of Billboard's Hot 100 Chart. Unfortunately, people caught on to his gimmicks and his debut CD, Music Is My Savior, became a commercial failure.
9. Remy Ma's Shootout
While other rappers were committing homicide on songs, Remy Ma was doing the real thing with real guns. In July 2007, Remy allegedly shot one of her associates who allegedly stole her money...or her man.8. The Game Disses Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Suge Knight
A previously unheard song from The Game titled "My B***h" turns up on the Internet. The song finds Game taking subliminal shots at three hip-hop giants: Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Suge Knight. The question is, why?
7. MC Rove
The man nicknamed Bush's Brain limps around on stage while kicking the worst freestyle by a non-rapper ever. No word on whether this had anything to do with Rove's resignation from the White House five months later.6. Jay-Z's Baby Mama Drama
A young Trinidadian model named Shenelle Scott claims she's the mother of Jay-Z's secret love child. Jay's response? "Billy Jean, the g**amn boy ain't mine."
5. T.I.'s Gun Bust
Organizers at the 2007 B.E.T. Hip-Hop Awards were wondering why T.I. hadn't checked in for soundcheck, as he was scheduled to perform at the event. Little did they know that Tip had been taken into custody by the feds for allegedly trying to purchase illegal machine guns and silencers.
4. Virginia Tech & Bill O'Reilly vs. Nas
Bill O'Reilly and some parents of VA Tech students criticize the inclusion of Nas at a concert designed to honor victims of a massacre that left 32 people dead.
3. Nas' Controversial Album
Serial controversy-starter Nas announces that his next album will be titled Nigger. Without hearing a single track from the album, critics from all walks of life pounce on God's Son for his atrocious act. And we still haven't heard any music from that album.
2. Hip-Hop 9/11
It was bad enough that the media dubbed the so-called showdown between Kanye and 50 "Hip-Hop 9/11" when that day truly belonged to the real heroes of a national tragedy. But the Curtis vs. Graduation chart battle took a turn for the worse when 50 Cent, who came up short the first week, refused to honor his word and retire from rap as promised. And did I mention that the beef was staged?
1. Hip-Hop vs. Don Imus
Shock jock Don Imus refers to the women basketball team of Rutgers University as "nappy-headed h*es." America blames hip-hop.
