Top 10 Rap Songs for August 27, 2008

Countdown of this week's best rap songs.

By , About.com Guide

Hits from New York heavyweight Jay-Z and Motor City whiz kid eLZhi are among this week's new entrants. Here's a rundown of the week's best rap songs.

10. Young Jeezy - "Put On" (Feat. Kanye West)

Speaking of "Put On," Jeezy has been putting everyone on his songs these days. Jay-Z appeared on a remix for this song, while Nas dropped by with a sizzling verse on the futuristic "My President is Black."

9. Murs - "Can It Be"

Usually, after an artist drops their best work, they're almost incapable of replicating that success. Murs, on the other hand, has remained consistent throughout the years. "Can It Be" is a delightful new single from Murs for President, out September 30th.

8. T.I. - "Whatever You Like"

T.I.'s late summer anthem arrives on the heels of Paper Trail, which is now scheduled for a late September release.

7. Killer Mike - "Pressure" (Feat. Ice Cube)

Killer Mike recently squashed a long-running feud with Big Boi (of OutKast). Killer had released a video challenging Big Boi to a track-for-track battle, ol' school style. But the two finally found a way to resolve their differences without going the beef route that's so rampant in hip-hop these days.

6. Big Boi - "Sumthin's Gotta Give" (Feat. Mary J Blige)

Big Boi and Mary J Blige rail against societal ills and keep their fingers crossed that an Obama presidency just might be the answer to America's problems.

5. The Game - "My Life" (Feat. Lil Wayne)

Here's something you might not know about Game's "My Life": the original version of this song included the following lines: "All those pictures of me and Em, I burned 'em. So there ain't no proof that I walked through 8 Mile. And since it ain't no Proof, I'll never walk through 8 Mile." Sensing that Eminem's 10 billion fans would deem this a diss to Em, Game quickly issued a statement clarifying the controversial line and ultimately axed it from the version you'll hear on LAX.

4. Rhymefest - "Stolen"

If "Stolen" ever comes on the radio by some magical coincidence while you're stuck in traffic, kick back, relax and allow Rhymefest to transport you into another world via a well-crafted story.

3. Jay-Z - "Jockin' Jay-Z (Dope Boy Fresh)"

This new heater from Hov is sure to make any dull party come alive, with its thunderous bass and catchy hook.

2. eLZhi - "Motown 25" (Feat. Royce da 5'9")

A wise man told me you can't argue with greatness. So when Elzhi raps, "Flawless/Should be the very reason you applaud us/You saw us laying down the flow / Just as raw as crawfish," you simply kick back and applaud.

1. Reks - "Say Goodnight"

This week's numero uno was made possible via a Reks slam dunk with an assist from DJ Premier.
