Top 10 Rap Songs for June 17, 2009

Weekly Top 10 chart chronicling the best hip-hop songs

We recall some of the week's hottest rap songs, including Mos Def's "Auditorium" and Jay-Z's "Death of Auto-Tune." See who else made the Top 10.

10. Kid Cudi - "Make Her Say"

"Make Her Say" is not quite the runaway smash that "Day N Nite" was, it shows Cudi's versatility. The presence of Kanye and Common should help ensure airplay.

9. Young Jeezy - "Dead or Alive"

Trappin' is still very much alive and Young Jeezy's a good reason why. "Dead or Alive" is taken from DJ Folks's Trappin' Ain't Dead mixtape.

8. Slim Thug - "Welcome to Houston"

After dominating the game for a few years, Houston rap scene quickly took a nosedive. This banger from Slim Thug's Boss of All Bosses brings the city's best MCs together in an attempts to rekindle the fire.

7. Clipse - "Kinda Like a Big Deal" (Feat. Kanye West)

Clipse recently shot a video for "Kinda Like a Big Deal." Their new album, Till the Casket Drops, is tentatively scheduled for fall.

6. Jay-Z - "Death of Auto-Tune"

Jay-Z comes out swinging at robo-voiced rappers with this No I.D.-laced buzz single from Blueprint 3.

5. J Dilla - "Reality TV" (Feat. Black Thought)

Give Dilla's latest LP, Jay Stay Paid, a spin and you'll be reminded that he really did leave before his time. "Reality TV," an update of Public Enemy's "Channel Zero," appears on Jay Stay Paid, in stores now.

4. L.E.G.A.C.Y. - "TKO" (Ft. Sean Price, Phonte, Chaundon)

Hip-hop posse cuts have become a way to demonstrate clout and drum up publicity for an album, as opposed to a lyrical showcase. This new jawn by L.E.G.A.C.Y. doesn't conform to that standard. It finds like-minded MCs Sean Price and Phonte pummeling the the beat (courtesy of Khrysis) into production

3. Busta Rhymes - "Decision" (Ft. Mary J Blige, Jamie Foxx, John Legend, Common)

"Decision" is a star-studded banger from Busta's mildly disappointing album, Back on My BS. The song was produced by D-12's own Mr. Porter.

2. Mos Def - "Auditorium" (Feat. Slick Rick)

Mos Def's latest album doesn't arrive until June 9th, but the Mighty Mos will reunite with his Black Star partner, Talib Kweli, for a one-time concert at the Nokia Theatre in NYC on Saturday night.

1. Alchemist - "Smile" (Feat. Twista & Maxwell)

"Smile" maintains its choke-hold atop the chart for the 4th consecutive week. Alc recently unveiled a video for this summer anthem. I dare you to watch it with a frown on your face.
