With so many rap tunes raining down on us like confetti, it's often challenging to wrap our hands around the hottest songs out there. Not to worry, I've compiled a list of the ten songs that are incinerating charts and ears everywhere. The weekly Top 10 is based mainly on aesthetic value, relevance, and performance on various charts.
1. Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push
Listen | Watch Video (windows media). Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor will drop on June 27th. The album features Mike Shinoda, Jill Scott, Gemini, and other like-minded artists.
2. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
The strange pair that had everyone going "Crazy" has finally dropped their highly anticipated debut, St. Elsewhere. The album is one of the most outstanding releases of 2006 so far.
3. Fort Minor ft. Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga - Where'd You Go
Forget those "Stan" comparisons. Fort Minor's fourth single from The Rising Tied resonates with grit and emotion simultaneously. Fort Minor and Holly Brook will perform "Where'd You Go" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on May 24th, 2006.
4. Kanye West ft Twista & Keyshia Cole - Impossible (MI:3)
Tom Cruise was spotted throwing down the "Roc" sign with Kanye West recently. West penned "Impossible" at Cruise's request, and the outcome is a charming soundtrack.
5. T.I. - What You Know
T.I. recently premiered his brand new video for "Why You Wanna" on TRL. The Atlanta native recently put his rap career in perspective following the painful loss of childhood friend, Philant Johnson.
6. Yung Joc - It's Goin' Down
Yung Joc's New Joc City will be the first brainchild from a multi-faceted deal between Diddy's Bad Boy Records, Joc's Block Entertainment, and Warner Music.
7. Rhymefest - Dynomite (Going Postal)
Rhymefest's Blue Collar LP has been pushed back again. This time, 'Fest fans would have to wait till July 11th, 2006.
8. Mobb Deep - Put 'Em In Their Place
Mobb Deep's G-Unit debut - Blood Money - arrived at #3 on Billboard 200, with over 106,000 units sold in its first week. Havoc and Prodigy have now embarked on a nationwide tour to promote Blood Money.
9. Rick Ross - Hustlin'
Following in the footsteps of hometown artists Cool & Dre and Pitbull, Rick Ross hopes to help solidify Miami's spot on the hip-hop map. The bass-heavy "Hustlin" is the first single from his upcoming Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam debut, Port of Miami.
10. Busta Rhymes - Touch It (Remix)
Like any other Dr. Dre-produced album, Busta's first release on Aftermath Entertainment has taken two years to create. We'll find out if it's worth the wait when The Big Bang finally drops in June, 2006.
