Top 10 Rap Songs for July 30, 2008

Countdown of this week's best rap songs.

By Henry Adaso, About.com

Hot on the chart this week are songs by Nas, The Game, AZ, and others.

10. AZ - "The Secret" (Feat. Raekwon)

If you think Nas' new album is provocative, wait till you hear what AZ has in stock on N.4.L. (N***az 4 Life), his DJ Absolut-hosted mixtape (out Aug. 5th). "The Secret" is one of the highlights from the mixtape, as it merges Raekwon's gorgeous delivery with AZ's dropdead flow.

9. Young Jeezy - "Put On" (Feat. Kanye West)

This lead cut from Jeezy's 3rd LP, The Recession, is still enjoying considerable burn despite having been around for several months. Jeezy owes Yeezy big time if "Put On" (and that's a big "if") ever makes it to the top of Billboard.

8. T.I. - "No Matter What"

Despite the seeming popularity of "No Matter What," T.I. has unveiled another potential summer anthem titled "Swing Ya Rag" to pave the path for his Paper Trail album. Paper Trail arrives in September.

7. Big Boi - "Royal Flush" (Feat. Raekwon and Andre 3000)

Boi and Dre are overdue for a new OutKast album, but we'll take this instant banger for now.

6. Lil Wayne - "Mr. Carter" (Feat. Jay-Z)

Dwayne Carter meets Shawn Carter. You know you're in for a treat when two successful rappers are spitting with the hunger of newcomers. It's a match made in hip-hop heaven.

5. Statik Selektah (w/ Cassidy, Termanology, Saigon) - "To The Top"

Christmas is here! Well, not relly. But with an incredibly tasty number like this one from Statik Selektah's upcoming 2nd album, it feels like Santa decided to pay us an early visit this year.

4. Game - "Game's Pain"

Game continues the onslaught of dope singles that garnered him kudos for his last album. There are 2 other singles by the LA rapper on the horizon, including "Dope Boyz" and "My Life." The latter features a guest appearance from Lil Wayne.

3. Reks - "Say Goodnight"

Reks
DJ Premier's napalm drums provide a suitable soundbed for Reks' angst-driven lyrics, as the newcomer channels Chuck D's passion on his best track yet.

2. Killer Mike - "Pressure" (Feat. Ice Cube)

This one slams into hip-hop perfection with its infectious beat and catchy hook. Other raging hits to check for on Killer Mike's brilliant new CD: "10 Gs," "I Gotcha," and "2 Sides."

1. Nas - "Hero" (Feat. Keri Hilson)

Nas played real life hero when he hopped on board with the political organization Moveon.org to protest what they described as Fox News Network's racist attacks against the African-American community. Nas led about 50 protesters to deliver over 620,000 petitions against the news network.
