The Bottom Line

Eminem. Akon. "Smack That"? Who saw this one coming? Akon recruits everyone’s favorite white rapper to jump-off the fall season with a club banger. Unfortunately, this track just might make you want to bang your head against the wall.

Pros

  • An unexpected combination of two very different artists

Cons

  • Prosaic production and uninspired lyrics

Description

  • "Smack That" is the lead single from Akon's second album, Konvicted.
  • The song was produced by Eminem, who also supplies a verse.
  • "Smack That" is a departure from soulful Akon hits like "Ghetto" and "Lonely"

Guide Review - Akon ft. Eminem - Smack That (S.R.C. / Universal)

Following up on success from Trouble, his debut album, Akon switches things up and takes it to the clubs this time around. After pumping out street-themed "hood classics" such as "Ghetto," "Locked Up" (featuring Styles P), and "Soul Survivor" alongside Young Jeezy, Akon now assumes the role of party-going player; this is not the rugged and gritty Akon we’ve grown accustomed to. Not even a decent Eminem verse could save this track, which relies on a bland chorus that rhymes "shadow" with "Gallardo" and "Tae Bo." "Smack That" holds no weight in comparison to current club tracks such as "Money Maker," the bouncy collaboration between Ludacris and Pharrell, among others. Expect "Smack That" to drop off the charts as fast as it popped up.

Well..., Member Madstarrr

Well, i used to like this song, but back then i didnt care what i was listening to. It's a good club banger, but not a good hip hop song. Eminem's worst song ever.
