Interview with Phonte of Little Brother (contd.)

By Henry Adaso, About.com

Little Brother - The Getback

Do you have any plans to replace 9th with another producer. I've heard some rumors about Khrysis coming on board.

[Laughs] Never have, never will. And that's not a dis to Khrysis (Justus League producer and Little Brother collaborator) because that's my man. But, there will be no replacement in the group. If somebody like Khrysis ends up doing all the tracks for the next album, it'll just be Little Brother, produced by Khrysis. There won't be another official member or none of that sh*t. That's just how it is. We're good where we at.

Switching gears now. Where do you stand on the debate over Barack Obama's blackness?

Dude looks pretty black to me, you know. [Laughs] I mean, I saw him.

Do you still drive that same Nissan you talked about on The Minstrel Show?

Yessir.

I drive a Nissan Sentra, so that line connected.

I mean, the vehicle's mine now, it's paid off. I no longer have a lease on it but I still drive it.

Who would win a fight between you and Big Pooh?

I don't know...it depends. It's a question of strength vs endurance. He might have me on the strength but I got him on the winds, so if he hit me and I made him tired and made him miss, then I win.

How can you use the Internet to your advantage.

You can take advantage of the net by making good music. People are not on the 'net because they don't wanna support music, they're on it because they can't get enough music. So many record stores are closing down. Retail outlets are still shrinking. That doesn't leave a lot of room for many artists. People want options. People are getting tired of the same 12 songs getting played on the radio. People are tired of the same artists being put on TV all the time, you know. People want freedom and I think that's what the Internet is for. When people download my music, I think it's a great thing. As an artist, a lot of times you don't make money off your records anyway. You make money off your residuals. I think the Internet is a great thing. All the people that are continuing to create great music, the Internet gives them a voice.

What's up with Percy Miracles?

Percy's dead, man. I'm still doing some singing on some records but the character of Percy is dead.
