Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop Albums 5-27-06

By Henry Adaso, About.com

These are the top 10 rap/hip-hop albums on Billboard for the week ending on 5-27-06.

1. Mobb Deep - Blood Money

Mobb Deep fell from #3 to #28 on the Billboard 200 after selling about 144,000 units in 2 weeks, an indication that Blood Money lacks staying power.

2. T.I. - King

T.I. holds steady on #2 with an additional 49,000 copies of the platinum-certified King sold this past week. The new single, "Why You Wanna," which jacks Q-Tip's flow has been enjoying frequent airplay.

3. Chamillionaire - The Sound of Revenge

Chamillionaire's story is a perfect example of "slow and steady wins the race." Sound of Revenge didn't catch fire until Cham's hit single, "Ridin'" became a ubiquitous jingle.

4. LL Cool J - Todd Smith

Big Ellie is still striving for a spot on the charts with today's breed of rappers, with a little over 17,500 copies of Todd Smith sold this past week. That brings his total CD sales to about 225,000 copies, an underwhelming performance for an equally disappointing album.

5. Sean Paul - Trinity

Sean Paul's Trinity was recently certified platinum. His feverish single, "We Be Burnin'" has also been certified double platinum for digital downloads. Sean Paul will stay busy by performing at MTV's Beach House (May 31st), and Hot 97's Summer Jam event before embarking on a 4-week tour of Europe.
