Shannon Barbour - Bio

By Henry Adaso, About.com

Shannon Barbour

Shannon Barbour has worked as a freelance journalist and copywriter for various prominent print publications and websites, as well as many small and large businesses. She has written on topics such as African-American history, diversity, women’s issues, consumer finance and hip-hop culture. Her nearly lifelong love of hip-hop extends beyond the music, to the history, fashion and all-around culture, East Coast, West Coast, Down South and worldwide.

In addition to About.com, she is also a contributing writer to Upscale magazine and fierce411.com. She holds a B.A. in English from Duquesne University.

From Shannon Barbour:

"Hip hop follows the tradition of jazz as a bold, exciting, and uniquely American art form that wields a powerful global influence. No matter what happens in the genre, I never get bored with hip-hop. Every time we think it is on its way out, some artist, cultural mover, or mogul comes along to shake things up and keep us in the game.
