Recap: 2006 BET Awards Winners & Nominees

Wednesday June 28, 2006
As we speak, 50 Cent is probably on the phone with Debra Lee demanding an explanation for his exclusion from the winners list. One person who probably won't have much to dispute (emphasis on 'probably') is the multiple award-winning Kanye West. But, wait a minute, is it just me or did BET create an extra slot for a 2nd Video of the Year award just to gratify Mr. Kanye "I don't know why they gave me a teleprompter" West? If you were unable to catch the show live, don't worry, BET will air it again on Friday June 30th. For now, here's what you missed:

-Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg exchanged CDs while putting the word out on their new albums Laugh Now Cry Later and Cali Iz Active respectively.

-Due to technical difficulties, the instrumental froze as T.I. started to perform his smash song, "What You Know." Like a true king, Tip worked through the fiasco swiftly and had me thinking the first verse was intentionally designed to be performed acapella.

-Chris Brown got too excited and did a backflip off the stage. Must be those budding hormones that come along with puberty.

-Busta Rhymes performed "Touch It (Rmx)" along with Papoose, Lloyd Banks, DMX (via video feed), an energetic Mary J Blige, Rah Diggah, and a surprise guest named Eminem.

-The finest performance of the night was the masterful Prince + Stevie Wonder + India.Arie + Yolanda Adams + Chaka Khan collaboration.

-Afterwards, Prince threw the mic at Will.i.am, who reacted gracefully by jumping onstage and freestyling his behind off.

hey I know this isnt all that important but also on the Chaka Khan collabo, we can’t forget how Yolanda Adams performed and also ripped her performance…that woman can sing!

And who could even forget Beyonce & Jay-z’s opening number? That was hot and regardless of what anyone says, Beyonce is still holding it down and I am truly looking forward to her Sept. release.

I dont like how cocky Kanye is getting even though he had a nice video for “Gold Digger,” I believe it should have just been one winner…..Mary!!

Beyonce torn that stage up! The girl was on FIRE! The Prince, Chaka, Stevie, India, and Yolanda set was mind blowing! But Prince’s solo performance was off the hook. Can’t wait til next year.
