There's nothing exceptionally clever or humorous or insightful on Long. Live. A$AP. Nothing worth breaking the rewind button over. Nothing reverberates after the music stops. So how come I can't stop listening to it? Read on.

This album does nothing for me. Yes it has good production but the lyrics and songs are about the same old sh**, money, drugs, women, and bragging. The thing is, most people don’t care because they just buy what sounds good. Next.
Or to some people, the ability to convey those same old ideas through unique cadences, song structures, and instrumentals is more important than trying to talk about “serious” subject matter…
If you want to have a conversation on the value of lyricism in modern rap, that’s a valid discussion. But this album is a triumph in style, no matter what we think that means for the larger conversation on what makes a great hip-hop album.
Correct me if I’m wrong (seriously), but are you actually saying its sad that people “just buy what sounds good” or am I taking that out of context?
It’s disappointing but yes you are correct.
nah pistol ur so not getting his point…
So people shouldn’t listen to what they like and enjoy and what sounds good to them? And this is a problem that disappoints you? You sure you want to stand by your previous statement?
Haha you mad? I don’t think you understand what I am saying. People don’t care about lyrics.
Actually Pistol, I don’t think you understand what he is saying. We know you think people don’t care about lyrics, but you are also criticizing people for liking, “what sounds good.” If it sounds good, is that not important as well?
No I am criticizing people for not caring about lyrics. Obviously the song needs to sounds good and that is the most important thing. I don’t think any understood my initial post. I was simply saying most people just listen and if it sounds good they like it and they don’t really care about the lyrics. That doesn’t mean that sounding good isn’t important. Cruel summer is a perfect example of this. Take a look at 2chainz and big seans verses from every song they are in.
Lol, I guarantee you, I knew that’s what you meant. But, the two things aren’t mutually exclusive. You said BOTH of those things.
I just hate that traditionalist viewpoint that talking about money/drugs/hoes is stupid. Sure, it can get old, but as long as the emcees are talented enough to do it an artful way, it can actually be really good. For me personally, to talk about that “shallow” subject matter artfully (with unique changing cadences, slight vocabulary nuances, different vocal inflections, a unique personality) is a better measure of intelligence and creativity than to talk about social inequalities and what not in the same boring cadence the whole song with no signs of humor.
I know that those social inequalities exist. I know what gun violence is doing to inner city youth. I know that politicians are self serving, greedy, and power hungry. I don’t need my emcees to tell me all about it unless they can do it skillfully. Kendrick is the only person that has been able to that in a while IMO.
Anyway, the point is, I’m tired of all the complaining about money/hoes/partying.
Haha I just don’t know why it concerns you what other people listen to or what they listen for…. Its just music, dude….
I just don’t get why you guys are so concerned about what people say. People always gotta f~ucking argue no matter what the subject matter. Kris…get a life man no one is going to read that long of a post.
Lol. People are always criticized for being passionate. I love music. Get over yourself. If you were intelligent, you might understand.
Dan, you basically just admitted that your attention span isn’t long enough to read a couple of paragraphs…
This is a fun way of communicating. Lets just move on gentlemen.
