Andre 3000 Sets the Record Straight on OutKast Reunion

By January 15, 2013

Follow me on:

Adjective: Awkward

Definition: The sticky air triggered by any number of uncomfortable events, e.g. Big Boi hopping on songs already sporting the guest vocals of his potna Andre 3000, i.e. Frank Ocean's "Pink Matter" and T.I.'s "Sorry," for the sake of nostalgia, music making fun or something else entirely, thereby prompting the notoriously evasive Andre "Lee-me Alone Lemme Sing to My Cat and Play My Guitar by My Lonely" 3000 to grant a rare statement to Spin clarifying that said Big Boi + Andre 3000 songs do not = an OutKast reunion, lest we mistake them for an OutKast reunion or something.

"It's important for me to be clear about the origins of my contributions to 'Pink Matter' and 'Sorry.'

I was approached as a solo artist by both Frank Ocean & Tip. I discussed musical direction with each artist and completed my verses. It was after that when Big Boi's name came up.

I never want to mislead our audience - I worried that some would think these were Outkast collaborations. These songs are not Outkast collaborations. I discussed this rationale with Big, Frank and T.I. and everyone agreed. That is why I was surprised to read about these remixes.

I understand that anyone can put out an unofficial remix to any song but I have an obligation to be honest with fans about what this is ... and what it isn't."

We get it, 3 Stacks. You've had these songs on repeat all week. You can stop gushing about these songs now.
