What makes a great rap group? Is it chemistry? Cohesion? Diversity? A fusion of all three? The answer is hazy, sort of like philosophy. Usually you just know a good group when you hear one. You know, because the collective greatness of a good unit transcends expectations, spawns gems, grabs ears.
I say all that to say this: All Day (Preemo and Tawn P) is the real deal. Tawn's fire and Preemo's ice constitute the acme of group unison. Their yin-yang energy carries on to the stage; Tawn often leads the charge, Preemo behind her, calmly backing up the lyrical assault. Chemistry done right. And both can rap pashmina shawls around anything with a drum pattern.
If their names ring a bell, it's because you remember them from various incarnations of the "10 to Watch" list. Preemo earned a spot on the 2011 list, while Tawn popped up on the Houston version earlier in 2012.
They're hard at work on a full-length debut, due in March 2013. Get familiar with All Day now because I could be writing about them all year.
