Kendrick Lamar Debuts at No. 2

By , About.com GuideOctober 31, 2012

Follow me on:

It's one of the great rap anomalies: an album that's both critically lauded and commercially successful. But that's exactly the level of success Kendrick Lamar is enjoying with his Aftermath debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city. The album bowed at #2 with 242,000 units in its first week. Not too shabby, considering that good kid is an indie album on a major label.

Also notable: RZA's The Man with the Iron Fists soundtrack, which sold 12,000 units to land at #31.

Hes probly a troll. Just ignore him. Even if hes not, I’d still ignore him. He obviously doesn’t make a valid case. “a wise man once told me don’t argue with fools” – Jay-Z

Elaboration: The comments section is notoroious for being edited or filtered for anything that doesn’t suit about.com’s facist agenda.

I think it’s also funny that “an administrator” has gone as far as updating the names on comments, rather than truly address the issue at hand. Passive aggressive BS.

Fact of the matter is that I respected Henry’s opinions enough to keep coming back here after all these years.

BUT.

With a billion other sites out there doing the same damn thing, the only thing keeping me here was updating my bookmarks. Since that’s done, I won’t be returning.

Frankly, lately I find Henry’s articles to be contrived, the people in the comments to be pretentious and the site to be long overdue for a facelift. I know I speak for more than a few people when I say that the only draw for the site is the monthly top 10 releases.

So J, Lefty, Henry, there you have it. Adios.

To Lammy:

Dude, I have nothing but love and respect for you, but you’re seriously tripping.

A) You didn’t post any comments prior to the one where you complained about being deleted. I checked. Then double checked. That’s why I asked you to elaborate.

B) I’ve been working for About for over 6 years and I guarantee you there’s no such thing as a filter for unfavorable comments on this site. It doesn’t exist. I’m not even sure how it would work.

C) The only comments that automatically end up in the filter folder are comments with explicit language. When I see those, I usually edit those and approve them.

As far as I can tell, your last comment prior to the complaint you posted on 11/1 was on 10/25 — a response to smike55 which everyone can see here. All your comments are showing, even the ones where you tell me to suck something that rhymes with lick.

Really, it’s fine if you no longer find this site relevant. I’m sure you’ll find tons of other great rap sites out there. Cheers.
