Sad day for hip-hop. The New York Daily News is reporting that Chris Lighty, founder of Violator Management, was found dead at his Bronx apartment this morning at around 11:30 a.m. Responding police officials ruled his death a suicide. Lighty, 44, supposedly shot himself in the head after an argument with his ex wife. He's freshly divorced and reportedly owes millions of dollars in unpaid taxes.
Lighty was instrumental to the careers of Busta Rhymes, N.O.R.E. and countless others. The veteran hip-hop handler also managed Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, and Diddy.
As soon as the news broke, Lighty's industry friends took to Twitter to express their sadness. His death is tough to process. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
