After weeks of speculation, Wale confirmed that he's now officially signed to Maybach Music Group. Yes, that's an actual record label, founded by Mr. Maybach Music himself Rick Ross. While Wale is now signed to Rozay, his management will still go through Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
If you're wondering how this move will impact Wale's music, fret not. The D.C. MC says that fans can expect "same music, better energy."
"A lot of people think...since he's running with this (Rick Ross and Maybach Music)....that he's gonna change," says Wale in response to the signing. "The difference is...I'm gonna say this one time...Rather than saying...Yo, I wanna put out Ambitious Girls or put out Diary, or this joint I think is gonna be good for hip hop...instead of having someone say, 'Na...Black people ain't gon' believe that...that's not what they want from you...' I'd be like 'Rozzay, my heart is in this record right here...Let's do it...'"
Wale released his widely lauded street album, A Mixtape About Nothing in 2008. His Interscope-backed album, Attention Deficit stumbled in the face of negative press and benthic sales. In 2010, he unleashed More About Nothing, a solid follow-up to his best mixtape.
It should be interesting to see how his new partnership plays out.
