Rah Digga has come a long way since her days as the leading lady in Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad. After releasing her solo debut, 2000's Dirty Harriet, Digga became disenchanted with the music industry and embarked on a 10-year sabbatical. She went to film school, settled down, and had a child. But, like Jay-Z during his myriad retirements, the allure kept calling her back. She's back in the fold with her first album in 10 years, Classic.

As a fan of female rappers and hip hop in general, I for one am very excited about this album. In a generation where the likes of Nicki Minaj and Soulja Boy are considered MC’s, it’s refreshing to have someone, especially a female, that’s not afraid to go against the grain and deliver hip hop at it’s purest, not some pop, sensationalized garbage.
Also, I’m pretty sure, not certain, that record labels only pay for about 12 tracks and anything else the artist includes is out of the kindness of their hearts. And I’ll definitely tack 10 quality tracks over 20 tracks of fluff and filler any day.
@Adam You are correct. The labels only pay for 12 songs so it is pointless putting skits and fillers on the album. They deduct from your points and royalties which aren’t smart business moves. I love Rah Digga and am very happy that she has returned!
i have yet to add an album by a female rapper to my collection. this is not because of bias or sexism, it’s simply because most of femcees today (nicky minaj, lil kim) suck. but i will definitely be checking this one out.
To james, u might wanna check out Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, and MC Lyte also. I believe u will like them very much too.
@The Chosen One, you forgot Queen Latifah.
@Guy, I sure did forgot about Queen Latifah and Lady of Rage, and Bahamadia. They’re others, but these are the ones that stand out to me.
@The Chosen One, I have to add Eternia and Dynasty to the list.
@Christian, I never heard of Eternia and Dynasty. I will check them out.
This album is awesome.
Other great female emcees:
-Dessa
-Invincible
-Tiye Phoenix
-Jean Grae
