Jay-Z Tops Forbes' 2010 Richest Rappers List

By August 18, 2010

Follow me on:

Despite the recession and economic turmoil that rocked the global market in the last few years, hip-hop is still big business. Look no further than Forbes' 2010 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list for evidence that rhyme still pays. A cursory glance at the list shows it's business as usual for the big guns. 2009's cash king Jay-Z maintains his spot at numero uno, while Diddy and Akon round up the Top 3. The top 20 earners on this year's Cash Kings list raked in over $300 million in earnings. The only surprise here is that 2008's cash king 50 Cent didn't even crack the Top 10 this year. Peep the complete list below.

  1. Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter - $63 Million
  2. Sean "Diddy" Combs - $30 million
  3. Aliuane "Akon" Thiam - $21 million
  4. Dwayne "Lil Wayne" Carter - $20 million
  5. Andre "Dr. Dre" Young - $17 million
  6. Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges - $16 million
  7. Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus - $15 million
  8. Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley - $14 million
  9. Pharrell Williams - $13 million
  10. Kanye West - $12 million

Hi Henry, I have been reading your blog for the last years and it’s my favorite hip hop blog. But you maked a mistake here, in 2008 Tupac Shakurs legacy made 15 million dollar. Shouldn’t that be on the list?

That’s what’s up, Jay!

I am a new author with an autobiography to be released on November 1st and I will speak on how I made it to the hip hop industry. I have worked with Jay Z and toured with Dip Set. I will also speak on how Lil’ Wayne snitched on me.

Be sure to sign my guestbook too. Thanks!

(14) Socks says:

Most notable is that #20 on 2007′s list made $10m, while #10 in 2010 made $12m. Pretty big downward trend. Eminem will have a big 2011.
