It's finally here. The remake of the 1985 classic "We Are The World" has been unveiled. It features 81 of the music industry's biggest names, including hip-hoppers Kanye West, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, will.i.am, and Nipsey Hussle (how did he manage to sneak in?). The video kicks off with Justin Bieber and concludes with a collaborative hip-hop bit.
Here are my thoughts on "We Are The World 25"
- The only reason to kick off a collaboration of this magnitude with Justin Beiber is if you're going according to size.
- Jennifer Hudson and Pink owned it.
- I like how they sequenced the auto-tuned triumvirate of Lil Wayne, Akon, and T-Pain to follow one another, so you can conveniently skip them all at once.
- Overall, the ladies (Pink, J-Hud, MJB, etc) were vocally superior to the fellas (Enrique, T-Pain, Wyclef, etc) in this one.
- The hip-hop chorus (written by will.i.am) was surprisingly impressive.
- The only thing more embarrassing than having Miley Cyrus follow Barbra Streisand was having Lil Wayne belt out Bob Dylan's part.
- Their heart was in the right place. Their voice? Not so much. Qunicy Jones and friends should have written an entirely new song for Haiti.
'We Are the World,' I love it, and I understand the point and think it's great. But I think 'We Are the World' is like [Michael Jackson's] 'Thriller' to me. I don't ever wanna see it touched."
