New Video Alert: Eminem - "Beautiful"

Thursday July 2, 2009
Eminem has a track record of delivering memorable videos, and Beautiful" is no exception. The video, which was overseen by Anthony Mandler, is visually stimulating and inspiring. "Beautiful" is not my favorite cut on Relapse, but I commend Em for the interesting visuals. Take a look.

I liked the video. But i still don’t know why Henry doesn’t like this song. I thought it was one of the better songs on Relapse.

I Like This, It’s The Most Sincere And Touching Track On Relapse. I Could Do Without The Paul Rodgers Intro Though.

Good video. And I agree with the other comments. How is this your least favorite song of Relapse, Henry? All of the songs on Relapse are about celebrities, or drugs, and a lot have Em using that stupid accent. Beautiful is actually a song with great lyrics and is meaningful and inspirational.

This is easily my favorite song on Relapse, no clue why it’s your least favorite. Will check the vid later.

Yeah, like all of them, I don’t know why it’s your least favorite…indeed it’s my favorite song.

(12) John M. says:

C’mon guys. The metaphors are played out, his flow’s sloppier than anywhere else on the album, those high notes are pretty awful in the chorus, the Paul Rodgers sample is unnecessary, and the entire thing just kind of rambles longer than it needs to.

(13) Slim Sunny says:

No Way. Beautiful, except maybe for Underground, is my favorite song from the album. My hip-hop heads agree that this is one of the bright spots from Relapse. I see eye-to-eye with you on a lot of things Henry, but not here.

(”Underground” is great. See my thoughts on “Beautiful” below — Henry)

(15) Henry says:

I have no problem with the concept, I just find the song mawkishly sentimental. If you’re going to attempt a motivational song, which in itself is a tired concept, at least make it memorable.

The lyrics “Don’t let them say you ain’t beautiful. They can all get f*cked, just stay true to you” don’t exactly scream creativity.

I agree with most of you that Beautiful is my favorite cut off Relapse, but I think Henry still makes a good point:

The slow sentimental song is something that I feel is now required of rappers nowadays to show some ‘diversity’ in their music. It’s an obligatory impulse to demonstrate that there’s a softer side to the artist.

Truth is, we don’t need to know any more about Eminem’s sides because his first four cd’s did a more than thorough job of letting us know who he is. I wish he’d focus more on making such sentimental ballads a little less cookie-cutter/what we wanna hear and more unique in nature. As Henry said, the lyrics of the main hook don’t exactly scream creativity.

I do think the song sounds great though (especially the sample). Great video concept. My heart goes out to Detroit, one a bustling city now worn down by pitfalls of its economy..
