Tha Carter III Snags Top-Selling Album Of 2008

Monday January 5, 2009

Lil Wayne is probably ordering more drank and Styrofoam cups as you read this, because his latest album Tha Carter III was by far the top seller of 2008, shifting 2.88 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's the good news. The bad? It's the first time the best selling album of the year has sold less than 3 million since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. Congrats to Wayne for achieving a feat usually reserved for pop artists.

Yeah, but AC/DC came in second for first week sales next to Wayne (1,000,000 for Wayne, 800,000 for AC/DC.)

p.s. Henry, do you think Rock N Roll Jesus count? It dropped in 2007.

(Yes, given that they’re counting total album sales for 2008 and not total sales for 2008 albums – Henry)
