Kanye West Vs. Stephen Colbert (And the Winner Is...)

Thursday December 4, 2008

Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert ordered a smackdown on Kanye West and it may have worked. Let me explain. Last week, Colbert complained on his late night show that his new Christmas album, A Colbert Christmas, was stuck at No.16 on iTunes Top Albums chart while Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak held the No.1 spot. Colbert ordered his viewers to flood to iTunes and purchase A Colbert Christmas so that he could dethrone and (possibly) humble the ever arrogant Kanye.

What's at stake here? Well, Colbert doesn't seem to like the fact that Kanye called himself "the Voice of this generation of this decade" in a recent interview. "With all that auto-tuning you're not even the voice on your own album," quipped Colbert on his show.

Kanye responded via Twitter by saying, "Who the f*ck is Stephen Colbert?" Hey Kanye, he's the guy who just surpassed you on iTunes. As of today, Colbert's album has jumped all the way to No.2 while 808s & Heartbreak has dropped 2 spots down to 4. The true winner of Colbert Vs. Kanye West, though, may be Britney Spears, whose Circus album now occupies the No.1 position.

Ive never even heard of a Colbert Christmas, and I think 808s is a good album, even though Kanye can get a bit egocentric sometimes.

Awesome.

No doubt Kanye’s album is packed with more talent, but Colbert understands an internet call to action and the power of geeks!

I’m GLAD Colbert beat Kanye.

His album benefits charities I’ve heard. And he’s hilaroius.

Kanye’s benefits….himself.
And it sucks.
Really, really, badly. Probably the worst download I did all month. I listened to it, said, “wtf…ew.” Then went back to real music.

Kanye is a joke. Stephen Colbert inset even a rapper, who’s to say Kanye is a better artists? If the CD was about laughs, Kanye would have won because that album is a joke.

Why is this an issue? Stephen Colbert’s show is obviously a satire/parody whatever you want to call it and not to be taken seriously. The fact that Kanye West took offense is just plain stupid and proves his arrogance. Better people and even rappers such as Nas have been on the show and are aware of it’s comedic nature.
