MC Breed Is Dead
Sunday November 23, 2008
Flint, MI rapper MC Breed, best remembered for hits like "Gotta Get Mine" and "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin'," has died. Breed's publicist confirmed that Breed died at a friend's house earlier today. He was 36 years old.
Breed had recently been battling health issues prior to his death. In September, Breed was admitted to a hospital after suffering from kidney failure, and he was placed on life support for 2 days. He had only 30 percent functionality of his kidneys. Plans were put in place to organize a benefit concert for the rapper to raise money for his medical bills, but they were put on hold when his condition seemed to improve.
According to MTV, Breed also talked about coming with a new album, bragging that his skills were as sharp as ever. Before he passed away, Breed was in the process of inking a deal with Ichiban Records. We wish his family and friends strength and fortitude in this difficult time.

I love his song “Ain’t No future in your frontin’” and still play it to this very day. My condolences to his family and friends.
I remember in the summer of ‘91, it was such a big deal to have a rapper from Michigan have such a huge single, and I remember at first heads wondered if he was from Detroit… his crew the D.F.C ended up recording two albums on their own.. Indirectly, he paved the way for more midwest rappers to be accepted: Bone thugs, Brainz, Twista, Eminem, and various folks.. I’m glad I did get to see him perform..
..odd side note- In the original video shot for “Ain’t No Future”, there was an actor playing Saddam Hussein– the actor looked absolutely nothing like him, it was just a guy of Arabic-descent with a green military shirt with “S. Hussein” on the left breast.. at the end of the video, “Hussein” gets hung by a rope.. fast forward to 2005, 2nd gulf war, the real Saddam Hussein is.. hung to death..
..The Ichiban label apparently folded circa 2000 but most of Breed’s catalog was picked up by Warlock Recordings, several albums can be purchased new at Amazon; of course there’s always EBay, etc.
