Open Mic: How Do You Rate Kanye's "Love Lockdown"?

Monday September 15, 2008

In case you've just returned to the States from an overseas trip, Kanye debuted his new single, "Love Lockdown," at the VMAs last week. The song has received mixed reaction so far, but I'm curious to know what you make of it. Listen to "Love Lockdown" and then vote.

How Do You Rate "Love Lockdown"?

I’d say it’s average. I’ll play it for a few weeks and then get bored with it just as I do most songs these days. I’m more interested in hearing the CD Quality “Heartless”. Supposedly that song is amazing.

Looks like Kanye’s next album will be a lot of these types of tracks (not that it’s necessarily a bad thing). I hate to bring up the subject, but perhaps a result of losing his mother?

new version came out today. It’s a little better, the chorus is done better, there’s a few interesting tweaks, though nothing major.

Hey all,
I am from Australia and a quite a big fan of Hip Hop and I gotta say, whether or not this track is good or not it’s still not hip hop. It’s a lame and boring song that is largely dependent on its weak production and the ever so stupid “Auto-Tune” effect. But yeah I guess I can see where Kanye is coming from, he wants that mainstream audience once again, I would have thought he’d had enough of that after Graduation and maybe gone back to proper hip hop. Kanye is a great producer and a decent rapper with the perfect amount of swagger and it frustrates me to see him make this kind of music, a waste of talent in my eye. The T-Pain voice that seems to have revolutionized mainstream hip hop in 2008 really emphasizes his waste. I mean come on, when has this effect ever worked well? Maybe on one or two songs that feature T-Pain on the hook. It’s disgusting seeing all these rappers use it, for the love of hip hop i can not figure it out. Kanye, Weezy, 50 and even Diddy are using it all the time now. Seriously, I don’t think I can recall on one track this year that has featured Kanye (does not include all the Robo-Ye’s we’ve heard).

When Nas called for hip hop to resurrect itself in 2006, it definitely answered. The only problem was that the pathetic stuff that plagued our radios never left.
