Review: GZA - Pro Tools
Tuesday August 19, 2008
I think we can all agree that GZA is one of the greatest lyricists of all time. But it's not his wordsmithing capabilities that endeared me to the Wu MC. It's his ability to do it effectively for the duration of an album that makes the Genius truly special. Many lyrically-inclined rappers are likable when consumed in small doses, but they can also get mind-numbingly boring while trying to hold down an entire album. Not GZA. Here's our resident Wu-Tang specialist, Ivan Rott, with an incisive review of GZA's Pro Tools.

Comments
Agree, 4 mics are about right…Not a classic or smth, but fits the definition “a good album”…
Henry, are you going to do a review on the Elzhi’s joint…I think it could be in the Top3 of the year
I have to say I think this album kills. The production is unique as hell…and if youre not hearing that now, you may get in a few years.
Smooth and rugged all at once. Recommended!
5 MICS, classic.
To one of the comments: I don’t see how the production is unique. It’s rather dull and unexciting, sounds like left over beats. GZA is one of my fave artists but I’m not impressed at all with this.
Weak production and his new found monotone style.
2/5.
I want the 00 version of Liquid Swords.
The album is good, he brings great lyrics but not quite the intensity. The beats on some songs are dull and repetitive, GZA saves them though. 0% finance for example is a terrible beat, but GZA kills it.
It’s worth buying 9/10.
