Lil Wayne Sued for "Playing with Fire"

Friday July 25, 2008

Lil Wayne can't catch a break these days. First Nas dethrones him atop the Billboard 200, now Abkco Music Inc is suing him for copyright infringement and unfair competition. In a lawsuit filed yesterday, owners to the rights of Rolling Stones' "Play With Fire" claimed that Lil Wayne recorded an altered version of the song without permission. The song in question is "Playing With Fire," which appears on his platinum-selling new album, Tha Carter III.

Abkco Music Inc say that Lil' Wayne's "Playing with Fire" was clearly ripped from the Stones' original but used "explicit and offensive language." Sounds like someone heard that Carter III was selling like hotcakes and decided to go after Lil Wayne for a piece of the pie.

I’m takin Weezy’s side here. He got sued for this AND “I Feel Like Dying.”

If anything, this version gave the Stones a little bit of steam that they would not have gotten otherwise.

The company’s just jealous of Weezy. Don’t believe me, it says he’s getting sued for “unfair competition.”

Someone should try READING before writing. It’s a new concept. Reading the complaint one would see that ABKCO, rather than pick up money from the sales, refused to permit LilWayne to alter Play With Fire when they learned the plan to include the song with his anti-woman rap. “So I’ll just steal it” was the apparent attitude.

Lil Wayne’s camp has claimed that their producer re-made the beat when they didn’t get clearance from the Rolling Stones. I wonder if that’ll hold up in court.

i just think that they are mad because when they made the song they didn’t get many rankings now that its a hotter sexier style and genre then they want to come with some B.S.
