Review: Nas - "Hero" (Feat. Keri Hilson)

Thursday July 3, 2008

Hero. That simple 4-letter word sums up Nas' current status in hip-hop. When everyone was slipping into a state complacency, Nas boldly pronounced hip-hop dead, thus igniting an important conversation on the essence of preserving creativity within the genre. In the wake of a recent spur in race-based crimes, sharply juxtaposed with the prospect of a black president, Nas shifted the discussion to the most controversial racist slur in American history, the N-Word.

Which brings us to the first single from his Ni -- excuse me, untitled album. Here's my take on Nas' "Hero."
