Kanye, UGK Win Big at 2008 BET Awards

Wednesday June 25, 2008

BET has a separate Award ceremony for hip-hop, so you may not see me covering the main thing here. (For that, you can always turn to our reliable R&B Guide, Mark.) That said, there's still a small allocation for hip-hoppers at the main BET Awards and I'm sure you're interested in knowing about the winners. Here are the hip-hop nominees and winners at this year's BET Awards

Best Female Hip-Hop Artist:
  • Lil Mama
  • Missy Elliott (Winner)
  • Eve
  • Kid Sister
  • Trina
Best Male Hip-Hop Artist:
  • Common
  • Jay-Z
  • Kanye West (Winner)
  • Lil Wayne
  • Snoop Dogg
Other hip-hop winners at last night's event include: UGK (Best Group and Best Video for "Int'l Players Anthem") and Kanye West's "Good Life" (with T-Pain) (Best Collaboration). The Viewer's Choice Award went to Lil Wayne''s "Lollipop" to no one's surprise.

The way I see it, the Viewer’s Choice Award was either going to go to Soulja Boy’s Crank That or Lil Wayne’s Lollipop and I am so glad it went to the latter.

I was just glad Soulja Boy didn’t win newcomer of the year. I’m glad they recognized that he’s a one hit wonder (he’s another J-Kwon, and all he’s done since his 15 minutes is make a porno, lol). The Dream was an excellent choice, though I thought Flo Rida might win it because of Low and Elevator.
