Preview: T.I.'s Paper Trail

Monday June 23, 2008

Tha Carter III is all the rave right now. But after the buzz finally simmers and the dust settles, everyone will start fiending for the next "big" hip-hop event. Then, a 5'7" southern champ who goes by T.I. will emerge from his Georgia mansion with a magic trick in tow. At least that's what we're hoping for, right? On August 12th, Paper Trail, Tip's 6th solo album will hit stores. Here's what we know about Paper Trail so far.

I think unless T.I. releases a video soon, the “next big hip hop event” will be either Nelly’s or Busta’s album… and it might be anyway.

I think it’s important to realize he hasn’t even realized his first official single. No Matter What was just to generate interest and gain some momentum for that first single.

A Better Day leaked the other day and it sounds pretty good, but not great. Doubt it’s a single.

And Peg-Leg, Nelly’s album sounds awful from the songs he’s released. He’s lost his touch. Busta sounds great, but we’ll see if he can bring it for an entire album like he used to.

Two albums to watch out for in July: Nas’ Untitled (July 15), and The Game’s L.A.X. (July 22). I think The Game’s is gonna be the big hit, maybe not on the radio, but The Game never gets on the airwaves.

i don’t like gangsta rap anymore, but if the first single is any indication that t.i. is truly a changed man, i’m definitely picking this up. he used to be my favorite rapper, so i can’t wait for his new sound. this sounds sick. can’t wait for this and big boi’s in august. now i just have to figure out what i’m gonna do this july. o and henry, i think he’s 5′9, not 5′7.

About the Nelly and Busta thing, I’m just sayin that it’s about hype. Think about it.

Nelly hasn’t put out an album in four years and for him to be generating all these singles is causing hype for his comeback album.

As for Busta, he hasn’t been using the style we all know him for, so with “Don’t Touch Me” to be out, that’s signifying his return to that style, plus his song with Linkin Park shows how good of an artist he is.

T.I.’s album will probably be better than either, but I’m just talkin about hype.

(6) J Willis says:

I feel ya. I was definitely getting in that hype bandwagon 6 months ago when he started releasing songs, but none of them have been big hits. Nelly needs to release a monster song to generate some real hype.

It’ll still sell well I’m sure, but so far it’s not sounding too good.

Oh yeah, anyone hear? Snoop announced that Dr. Dre is officially finished with Detox and that he’s currently picking tracks.

That for sure will be the next big thing for hip hop, I think.
