A Milli, A Milli...Tha Carter III Sets New Billboard Record

Whatever Lil Wayne has been doing to woo fans he needs to bottle it up and place it on Wal-Mart shelves because his formula works like magic. Wayne's latest album, Tha Carter III, has become the first CD since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005 to move more than 1 million units in one week. Specifically, Carter III has now moved 1,005,545 units. With the exception of Kanye West's Graduation, which reeled in 957,000 scans, no other album has exceeded 800,000 copies in its debut week since 2006.
In a YouTube video released last night, a visibly elated Lil Wayne thanked his fans for helping push Tha Carter III past the the 1 million mark in the album's first week.

Damn, why does everyone that hates an album have to make sure everyone knows there are people that hate it? Obviously there are people that don’t like the album, but obviously there are a LOT more that DO like it.
You wanna know why a lot of people like Wayne? Why even though his album isn’t up to par with TC2 he sold a mil in the first week? Because he’s different. He walks to the beat of his own drum, he doesn’t let anyone tell him what to do. If he feels like making a song for girls, he’ll do it. If he feels like telling someone he’ll shoot their grandmother, he does it. If he feels like calling out Al Sharpton, he does it.
The album isn’t for everyone, hardcore rap fans aren’t going to enjoy it. But Weezy fans love it, and he’s got A LOT of fans.
one thing i noticed at my high school is, people like r&b and wayne. they think rap is too violent, but when it comes to wayne, they don’t care because he has sick beats. that’s the reason why he’s popular. the man is a joke, and brings shame to the game.
I think most people bought tha carter III only because of Lollipop. Many people think, if something on billboard top, every time on Tv and radio, like “wow it’s cool and i should buy this cd”. Probably i’m wrong, but i think so.

He’s different? Please, he copies so many people. If i remember correctly a song called Candy Shop came out a few years ago and was 100Xs better than Lollipop. Mr. West on granduation was before Mr. Carter. Finally, A Milli followed basically the same formula as Hustlin with annoying you to death. And thats two of the first three songs on the CD! Whatever.
About only song, i sad people bought it because it is everywhere. Don’t think most people would buy cd if not Lollipop. I don’t think that Candy Shop was 100Xs better than Lollipop. Yes it was better i think but nut much.

I don’t understand why lot’s of people and radioshows so excited about this(million copies). LilWayne is hottest person now. It was obviously that this album would sell about this amount units.
I hate how wayne haters comment and nit pick everything the man does. If you hate him so much fine good for you, your entitled to your opinion but get off the guys penis.
Luke, I said he’s different, not his music. It’s hard to be original in music anymore. Lil Wayne is different in that he’s everything. He can bring a hardcore rap song (A Milli), he can drop a song for the clubs (Got Money) and the ladies (Lollipop, Comfortable), he can bring the metaphors in heavy with some meaning (Dr Carter), he can explain frustration (Tie My Hands), and he can give you some nice riding music (Let The Beat Build).
Is he the greatest rapper? Maybe not. But few can bring it in so many ways. When’s the last time you heard Nas or The Game drop a club anthem? Yea…didn’t think so. Few can do so many different styles. People like Wayne because he brings it on a lot of different levels.
And Candy Shop was barely better than Lollipop. Give it 5 years and we’ll be saying they were pretty much the same thing.
And why’s everyone making a big deal about a million copies? Uh…cause no ones done it in 3 years, it’s incredibly difficult to move a million copies in this day and age. Considering his album leaked a week before hand, it’s pretty remarkable he sold that many, especially when there’s so many haters out there.

reason there are so many “haters” is because he’s arrogant (claiming he’s the best rapper alive) but has yet to drop a classic album. wayne needs to understand it’s quality over quantity, he has some nice songs but he floods the market with alot of the same songs.
