The guys at MTV have every reason to pride themselves in their yearly Hottest MCs list. After all, it takes an enormous amount of time to sift through a list of hundreds of artists, debate endlessly and then cull a Top 10 out of all that deliberation. Though I respect the effort that went into the list, I disagree with the inclusion of Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent ahead of Saigon, Talib Kweli, and Joe Budden. This year, they bumped Lil Wayne off the top spot and replaced him with none other than Kanye West.

I agree witht he top pic, but not with the next orders. I dislike Wayne, but I have got to say that he is on top of Jay in the order this year because of the disgusting lollipop, in the radio you just dont hear anything else…. Rick Ross shouldnt be number 4 though..
yea even tho lupe’s the cool was better than kanye’s graduation, kanye’s show is insane (i was there). so yea, it’d have to be kanye.
Kanye has turned into a pop star. That’s how popular he is. I have never liked this “Hottest” MCs thing. How do you define “hot”? If it’s popularity, I’d say the list is about right. But even if it’s a little about lyrical skill, Rick Ross and 50 Cent should not be on the list at all.
And props to whoever brought up that Snoop did not write Sensual Seduction himself, on the show. A true MC should write his stuff by himself. The song was R&Bish in the first place. So, Snoop shouldn’t be on the list either.
i don’t necessarily like kanye but i believe according to radio play and the general public are in love with him so yes he is valid at the 1 spot…my feeling on hot is not wether an artist is good or lyrical but how much radio plays they get,how much sales they produce and how much talk is about them on radio and tv, as well as video play…i don’t agree with snoop at all and i think 50 should have been higher because he is generating a lot of interest plus he has a platinum album out and the hottest mix tapes of the year!!!
I Agree With 6th Sense, The Hottest MC In The Game Means The Most Popular At The Moment. It Doesn’t Mean Who’s The Greatest. So For Henry To Say That Saigon, Talib, And Buddens Should Be On That List Sounds Like A Mistake. I Mean, Come On, They Debated For Like 10 Minutes On Whether Soulja Boy Should Be On The List.
You misunderstood my comments. If this was an argument about the greatest I wouldn’t even suggest Joe Budden and Saigon because they’ve yet to prove themselves. I mean, c’mon Sai doesn’t even have an album out. The point I was trying to make is that all three MCs have been dropping heat lately. Rick Ross pales in comparison to Joe Budden who had the best mixtape of 2007, for example. 50 Cent had 1 hit song on his last album. Kweli had at least 3 hit songs, 1 great album, and countless features on other people’s songs.
It’s pretty good for a MTV list.

Kanye has hard beats… but thats it. His lyrics and raps are junk. Worst list ever. Who is Rick Ross. Sounds like a bad pornostar name. Jay-Z, Andre and Lupe belongs. Has MTV ever heard of Nas or Kweli, Common, Black Thought, Slug, Buckshot or Ghostface Killah. Bro, step it up!

Nah, I Just Wanted To State That “Hot/Greatest” Definition Of MTV, Because Alot Of People Are Getting It Confused. It’s Just Starting To Annoy Me Because MTV Is Telling You That Rick Ross, Young Jeezy And Jim Jones (Who Replaced Nas Last Year By The Way, Which Is Bananas Cuz He Dropped “Hip Hop Is Dead”) Are Hot Rappers. Not Because Of Their Lyrical Skills, But Because They Have Swagger, Move Units And Have Different Business Ventures. What Kind Of Garbage Is That. Jim Jones Will Tell You Himself That He’s No MC. I Do Agree That Buddens And Saigon Are Hot Rappers, And Kweli Is One Of My Favorites, But For Them To Make It On MTV’s Hot List I Don’t Think So. They’re Just Not Mainstream Enough. Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That, Because Jay-Z, Kanye, And Snoop Are Mainstream, But They Did It Right. That’s Why I’m Proud Of Saigon For Sticking To His Guns And Leaving Atlantic.

I generally have a problem with the concept of determining who’s a top ‘MC’ based on things like swagger and radio spins. We all know that any Jimmy with some cash and connections can get his song on the air. It’s called payola, and DJs admit that it’s had a huge impact on the game.

i’m sick of everybody overrating Lil’ Wayne, he’s the worst rapper since Vanilla Ice. Him, Snoop, and Ross shouldn’t be on this list. Whoever thinks Kanye has bad lyrics is fooling themselves, His graduation was the greatest album by far.

I hate the way ya’ll do this every year because ya’ll put peoples names up there that shouldn’t even be mention in this argument. ya’ll shouldn’t have had snoop dogg at #5, 50 Cent shouldn’t have been brought up at all because to me he is not even a rapper he is a pretender rapper.But Jeezy and Lupe should have been a little high than what ya’ll had them.
