Jay-Z Comes to LeBron's Defense, Takes Shots at DeShawn

By April 28, 2008

Follow me on:

Jay-Z, the self-ordained Michael Jordan of rap, has jumped in the middle of a 3-way rivalry involving Cleveland Cavaliers Forward LeBron James, Washington Wizards Guard DeShawn Stevenson, and teen rapper Soulja Boy. "Ask my n*gga LeBron, we so big we ain't gotta respond," raps Jay-Z on a new freestyle over Too $hort's "Blow the Whistle." But how did this whole saga begin in the first place?

Prior to an NBA playoff game between the Wizards and Cavaliers, Stevenson dismissed LeBron James as being "overrated." James, on the other hand, said that responding to Stevenson would be like Jay-Z responding to a diss from Soulja Boy. In the new song, Jay-Z boasts that LeBron is worth every dime, "Who the f*ck is overrated? If anything, they underpaid him," snipes Jay-Z on the new song. On Stevenson's invitation, Soulja Boy showed up to Game 3 of the Cavs vs Wizards playoff series in a Washington Wizards jersey, clearly inidicating his support for LeBron's opponents. "I mean, I've got to support who support me, and that's the Wizards," said Soulja Boy at the game.

Don't expect Stevenson to hop on the mic and take shots at Jay-Z though. His response to the diss was full of admiration for the hip-hop legend. "Jay-Z is a legend. He'll go down in history. No disrespect to Jay-Z," said Stevenson. "I take it as a compliment. I like his music. I like everything he does. I would never go at a legend."

As you probably know, Washington won that game, but Cleveland leads the series 3-1, having won Game 4. © Ray Amati/Getty

DeShawn isn’t a hater. DeShawn is a basketball player. They are all paid to play. He can’t go out acting like Lebron is the best player(even if he is). You have to step on the court like you are getting paid 2. Just like when Jordan played, People were taking it to him because they were professional basketball players. DeShawn, keep that mindset..you can ride Lebron’s jock when you trying to beat him. As for Jay Z’s new song…. Dude, ain’t you like 40? I mean really.. Stevenson never mentioned your name, Lebron did..The Wizards didn’t mention his name. Lost respect for Jay on that one!!! Go step to Lil Wayne.. soulja boy is a 17 year old child.

By this time next year, no one will remember who DeShawn Stevenson or Soulja Boy are. Lebron James and Jay-Z will never be forgoten. Stevenson is just trying to make a name for himself. So far he’s doing more talking than playing.

Tom is speaking truth. Javon what on earth does Jay-Z being 40 have to do with it. Doesn’t matter who mentioned who’s name. Jay-Z capitilzed on the opportunity to sell a record. If it wasn’t for this blog I would have never heard this song. Welcome to the wonderfull world of free advertising. Go Jay-Z….Go Lebron…. Pooh on the rest!!

Finally someone else realizes that Queen James is overrated. Airballing a free throw in the finals, o by th eway getting swept along the way. Atleast Melo has led his team to the playoffs every year and he has had more injuries to deal with. If Wizards had Arenas at full health Cleveland would be out by now and Lebron and Jay Z would be attending Soulja Boy concerts like they should be.

Do yourself a favor and do some research. Overrated?? Carmelo is 4th in scoring…guess who is 1st. Unfortunately they dont give awards for 4th place… Lebron is 8th in assists, not that great…Carmelo is 47th. Overall Points, Rebounds, Assists; Carmelo- 5th Place, I’ll leave it to you to figure who owns 1st place. have a drink on me Melo, just stay off the road this time, the law really frowns on 2 dui’s in one month… such a great player and role model
