Lil Wayne Scores First No.1 with "Lollipop"

Thursday April 24, 2008

Despite his 20 appearanceson the Billboard Hot 100, Lil Wayne never had a No.1 single. But "Lollipop" changed all that. The catchy, vocoder-aided single jumped from No.2 to No.1 this week, earning Weezy his first ever chart-topping single. According to Billboard.com, "Lollipop"'s ascension to the peak spot was fueled by 183,000 downloads. That's pretty remarkable, especially for a song that could come up in the discussion for most annoying rap singles of 2008. Hopefully, though, this will prompt Weezy's label to stop playing ping pong with Tha Carter III's release date.

Say what you want about him putting out this song after dissing 50 Cent for “Candy Shop,” but what’s going to generate more sales and interest in his album, another single that doesn’t crack the top 50 (because it’s rap), or a club banger like Lollipop?

Lil Wayne is smart, this will only help get the general public and club goers interested in his album. He can fill the rest of his album with what we’ve come to expect from The Carter III, hopefully it’s just not all of this and more like the mixtapes he’s been putting out (namely Da Drought III).

Thank god it’s #1. I’ve been waiting forever, it’s my favorite song, and I am so happy right now.

you can say lil’ wayne is smart, but if that’s the case, then he’s a sell out, which i agree with, and to tell u thtruth the only reason this guygot famous wuz cuz he was smart enough tio go on people’s hits, get paid AND get famous for it, being non someone ELSE’s hits that is, when he never made one until this garabage song. and his other song for this album, i A Milli wasgood until he decided Cory Gunz wasn’t gonna be on the final version, which pisssed me off cuz cory killed em onn tht track, and lil wayne actually wasnt THAT bad either, just ok.

You can hate on Lil Wayne all you want, but this guy has made some nice CDs in the past.
Let him have his shine. Stop Hating…
