Pimp C Died from Drug Overdose

Tuesday February 5, 2008

Results from the Los Angeles county coroner's office indicate that accidental overdose played a major role in the death of Pimp C (real name Chad Butler). That combined with a pre-existing illness known as sleep apnea, a condition that causes people to temporarily stop breathing while asleep, led to the 33-year old rapper's sudden death. Pimp C is said to have consumed large amounts of syrup. For the uninitiated, syrup is a recreational drink made by combining codeine and promethazine.

Pimp C, one half of the legendary UGK, was found dead in an L.A. hotel room last December. But he's not the only southern hip-hop icon to have died from syrup overdose. DJ Screw, a pioneering figure in Texas hip-hop, was found dead in 2000 after reportedly overdosing on syrup. Codeine is also rumored to have played a part in the death of Houston rapper Big Moe, whose debut album was aptly titled City of Syrup. For more references of "sizzurp" or "purple drank," look no further than the music catalogs of Lil Wayne, Paul Wall, Three-Six-Mafia, and others.

I figured that’s how he died. I wonder what the future of “sippin on some sizzurp” in Texas will be?

Oh, by the way, Henry, Big Moe died of a heart attack because he was obese.
