Jay-Z to Headline 2008 Glastonbury Festival
Here's some something that doesn't happen everyday: A hip-hop artist will headline this year's Glastonbury Festival. Jay-Z is scheduled to perform at the annual festival in England this June.
Festival organizer Michael Eavis said he wanted to "break with tradition this time and put on something totally different." "He will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure," said Eavis in an interview with the BBC. "It's not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, Coldplay and Muse and Oasis."
Glastonbury is billed as the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. About 180,000 people are expected to travel to the 900-acre location in the Vale of Avalon where the festival takes place. Our UK Guide Ferne Arfin describes it as "a summer solstice festival that turns a West Country farm into a mudfest." The event will run from June 27-29. Registrations are open on the Glastonbury website until March 14, 2008.
